MadManMike
Right,Moving in next Friday, just got my documents through - apparently I must have contents insurance before they'll give me the keys / let me sign the tenancy agreement. I must have the copy of the cover letter.1) is this even possible in a week?2) how the holy bird crap should I know what roof construction it is, what wall construction it is and when it was built? I only spent ten minutes looking around, I'm not a f**king structural engineer or whatever!I guessed at slate roof and concrete walls and got a quote of £4.89 a month but obviously I need to know these details before I go ahead with it or it'll invalidate my insurance should anything go missing.I can't contact the agency as I'm at work all the time they are open After all the crap I've gone through I'm truly amazed at how difficult it is to rent a flat.EDIT: What jeb-end decided B ) would make a good shortcut for a smiley? Papa Manual
You could just lie about the details and obtain the insurance. I'm guessing they wouldn't want to know the ins and outs, just the fact that you have it. Just don't try claiming on it.

N.Wood
Take out insurance for slate roof/brickwall or whatever, and change your policy once you get it? Surely someone knows what the house is made of, are the people who built the houses available outside of your office hours?
JonMack
Cant you ring up the landlord and ask them?
MadManMike
I found a site that didn't ask for those details, with a little tinkering and a £300 excess I got a years cover for £99 inc. accidental damage Purchased!4 hours to insure a flat. I love the internet.Edit: the people that built the houses are probably dead by about 80/90 years...
