Internal Cable Routing

howdy everyone, i was wanting to run my rear brake cable through my frame, just wondering if i can get the rubber bits to guide the cable into my frame anywhere, and how do you get the cable out the other end, without using magic? will drilling my top tube do much to weaken it? also on the subject of brakes, nokon cables any good?

I wouldn't use a nokon cable + it would make it harder to rout through your frame. Thought about a slick cable?

i don't thing routing the outer through will be a problem; my plan so far would be to run and innner through, then slide the outer over the top. i want a nokon cable because then once it's in, it can stay in cause i can't see the need to replace an outer like that (Y) i've considered cutting an avid flackjacket and running that through but i wondered if frame flex would = death?

We talking cable or hydro brake?? Rim or Disc. I did it with my bmx brake and if its cable then the holes will have to be at a nice angle to the hose isn't too bent, otherwise the cable will stick and feel awefull.

Also to get the cable through just use a piece of string first. Then use the old connect with selotape and pull technique. (Y)

Use a very powerful magnet... should be able to get hold of one somewhere!

rare earth

cable disc brakes (bb7s), i intend on doing this in the half term break comming up, so i've got plenty of time to plan and stuff. i'll do a nice faq guide + stuff (Y)

OK guys. Ready for the simple solution?

1. BEFORE you take the old outer cable out (assuming its gear cable or magura hose with a large enough diameter - over 1.2mm ID) simply insert an inner gear cable in FROM THE WRONG END.

2. Then you are left with the inner gear cable which goes through all the right places after you remove the outer cable.

3. Now feed the new cable/hose over the inner cable and slide it through.

This takes a bit of wiggling and finesse but is much easier than most approaches!!!

Hope this helps,

Will
