Ben John-Hynes
I had a 60a highroller, once the edges of the knobbles wore down it was possibly one of the slippiest tyres in history Not as bad as my 60a minion.
Alex Dark
I run a specialised eskar 2.4 on the front as well....very, very light tyre...okay grip...no pinches as yet. Not amazing grip though, definitely not as good as a high roller.
N.Wood
Kenny was rolling on a 2.2 Rubber Queen, which seemed to come up pretty massive, probably larger than a 2.35 Maxxis. Can't seem to find them anywhere though, they seem like the ones to have. Cookyboy
The new Kaiser that ali was running looked pretty good to me!
craigjames
according to the conti website the 2.2 rubber queen is only available with a wire bead bad times
tmks88
which one should I get on front? Im gettin Rubber Queen on the back but which one is light and has good grip for front use? I ride wet natural sometimes (its not possible to ride dry natural here in winter....)
forteh
I think the mountainking is a recommended choice (going by what the tarty riders are using) be aware that they come up narrow though, my 2.2 front tyre comes up at about 50mm carcass width. Im not really in any position to tell whether the tyre is any good on natural as Ive not used on anything other than street, grip seems good on concrete/brick though
Matt Burrows
Trials is going back in time? Its like the late '90s all over again when supersonics were the tyres to have.Everyone does know that the mountain/speed king series are XC tyres yeah? XC tyres designed to roll well and be as light as possible... I wouldn't touch one for trials. The black chilli compound comes in 3 versions now, the super soft version for the new DH tyres, the soft Rubber Queen version, and the original XC version which the 'kings use. It is still a fairly hard compound, its considered grippy for an XC tyre but then the standard durometer is between 60-70. And as far as punctures go, I could just about get away with the protection version for XC but the supersonic is rediculously thin! Unless you're under 10 stone and like hard pressures then I would stay away from them. Its a shame they don't do a 2.2" folding black chilli Rubber Queen as that would be an awesome front tyre. They only make a cheapo hard compound wire 2.2" version as far as I'm aware. Has anyone seen the new DMR tyre on Tarty? Looks like it could be an alternative to the try all front tyre, which is pretty much the only front tyre worth running in my eyes.Personally I can't wait for the new DH tyres, the compound is super soft and the sidewalls are more stable than maxxis. Hopefully they will be light as well, I have 2 pre production Rain Kings but have been reluctant to try them because of the 1.25kg weight! If anybody wants to buy them off me send me a PM
craigjames
well i would be running a rubber queen, but unfortunately it rubs not on the sides, they have the liberty if about 1-2mm clearace both sides! but the centre nobbles catch on the brake noodle of my v brake so i have an unused 2.4" rubber queen sat in the box in my kitchen now. they dont fit in an 07 echo control. Muel
They also almost don't fit in a Kot MS2 frame, I had to trim the side knobbles down on mine, and it still rubs a bit.
shamus
thats worrying then, i'm running a stop gap tyre (nokian gazza 2.3") on the back of my pure. and that almost rubs!doesn't look like i'll ever fit one of them in my frame then!does anyone have an idea of a good tyre that will squeeze in? the bb yoke seems really narrow to mesorry for the thread hijack
N.Wood
Maxxis 2.35 if its really tight, if not Maxxis 2.5s fit in most frames.
