Continental Tyres

Hi Guys, can someone who runs the Continental Mountain King tyres, 2.4 'supersonic' and a 2.2 front let me knw what you think??? The weight of them is unbelivably light!!! 2.4=549g!!!!! 2.2=478!!!

Ur looking at a pair of tyres a shade over a KILOGRAM!!! :o

Im assuming the 2.4 supersonic would be very thin casing?? Would it hold up as a rear tire??

I thought i would pimp the Yaabaa up for when i can start riding again so please help me out :)

Thanks Nathan

I'd recommend the Rubber Queen for the rear, the casing is very thin anyway, so to save that extra weight something must have gone!

My rubber queen is brilliant, the grip is really good easily as good as the Minion I had before, but the wear rate is daft! I bought it about 3-4 months ago from Ali C second hand, and you can't tell it's worn at all.

conti diesel

pretty heft, not much lighter than a dual ply maxxis.

just put ona single ply 2.35 high roller witha lightwieght 1.5-2.1" tube and for the first time ever didnt manage to puncture in 2 minutes!

well it lasted a day, went out for a few hours today and got a very small pinch, still not smooth god damn it!

Ive got a rubber queen rear and its awesome, just need to run higher pressures to keep it more stable - grip is phenomenal though :)

Ive just put a 2.2 mountain king supersonic on the front and they arent 478g, mine weighed in at 510 so if youre really counting the grams bear that in mind - that said its still a silly light tyre in the same sticky compound :D

These new conti tyres kick ass!

edit:

Just been out on the bike and tested the mountain king, its rather grippy and super bouncy (like the rubber queen) pigeons seem to float up much easier now :)

I dont think the 2.4 mountain king would be suitable for the back, the carcass comes up narrow - the 2.2 front is actually no wider than my old 2.1 irc mythos, the 2.4 is supposed to be narrower than a 2.35 maxxis; weird really as the 2.4 rubber queen is bigger than a 2.5 high roller :D

put a 2.2 race king on the front of mine today.... and i spend a lot more time with my front wheel on the ground than you guys!! :)

Seems fine, replaces a Larson i had for a week that was so high it hit under the fork! Grips well on the street stuff i played on today and is very lightweight. Obviously it will be more prone to punctures but for 13.99 delivered from chain reaction you can't go wrong!

i may have the wrong tires here but just been looking through chain reaction cycles with there continental tires and the mountain king seems like a good front and rubber queen rear, just went onto tartybikes and they now stock continental tires well the mountain king and rubber queen only problem is there all nearly 40 pound, chain reaction has the mountain king 2.4 version for 20 quid,

not being bitchy about tarty or nothing but never known them to be over priced and if they are certainly not doubled

my bad, theres 2 mountain kings and tarty stocks the mountain king PROTECTION which is nearly 40 quid

sorry tarty

Its only the supersonics which are lightweight, the protections are pretty heavy in comparison, tarty arent the cheapest on the conti tyres; that said the 20 quid mountain king on CRC is the bog standard one, not the supersonic. Cheapest mountain kings I found were a place called velokit, 30 quid for a supersonic 2.2; could always try tartys price matching :o

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=21537 <=== thats the mountain king you want almost 150g lighter than the cheaper one :)

Weird, we weighed a few of the 2.2 Supersonics and the heaviest was 478g.

The 2.4 Mountain King is a little larger than a 2.35" Maxxis (142mm carcass as opposed to 135mm).

As said above by Forteh here are a few different compounds, the Black Chilli ones are much more expensive.

I stuck the tyres up at RRP initially, but have now checked other stores and brought our prices down a little to compete more closely. Randomly discounting items is something I'm very much against, but I think it's important to compete with other shops too.

Haha, depends how you ride mate... I think I would get away with a 2.4 Mountain King on the rear with a little more pressure, but if you rim out a lot then probably not. The sidewalls are pretty thin to keep the weight down. The fronts are great though!

maxxis for life wiggas

i have gone back to a minion tyre over my bontrager tyre and im loving it. So much better stability on all surfaces. Can run lower pressures than the bonty. Im not sure id last too long without getting a puncture on a conti tyre. even with harder pressures

Perhaps my kitchen scales decided to flid out :D

Normally pretty good though, but if theyre now reading 10% over that means my bike actually weighs 8.1kg :)

Nah maybe not, I probably just got a duff one lol.

Sorry I cant help it, once I get the ti middlebash on this week it should be down to 8.9kg, going to look at modifying a set of burns to run a splined front sprocket aswell :)

Still no titanium or aluminium screws on it :D
