Fish-Finger-er
Hello, im currently running Windows Xp but ive been given a disc to totally wipe everything and a disc to install Windows Vista. What im asking is if i wipe everything off, will vista go onto my pc or will it say no?Cheers. Most vague question ever?No ones going to know without knowing every exact component on your pc, as opposed to you owning a pc, i own a pc in the loft, which wont run windows 95, or i have the pc im on now, which could probably run for president, there both pcs, and thats all the info you given us. Find out what hardware you got(and the drivers youve got installed now) and type them into google, with vista on the end, should be able to see if you can get drivers for them then. Fish-Finger-er
then i suggest finding a mate who knows a bit more than you to give you a hand(its no use us advising you, as when you lose the net during your reformat, and your stuck, were not much help)

Papa Manual
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Vista blows anyway, trust me. On my brand new laptop (pretty high spec) I had to spend a day f**king around just to get it to run with a modicum of stability. The first time I went to shut it down it just froze. Bill Gate can lick my ball sack.I can't decide whether ballack/ball sack is one word or two. Or should I hyphenate? My grasp of the English language is becoming less and less firm the more time passes since school.

G-baby158
Xp , Vista is sh*t to be honest, too many bugs init still and i find Xp's set-up better, like people been saying if theres nothing wrong with it dont wipe it.
Papa Manual
If your computer runs like shite with XP it will be a f**king nightmare with Vista. Maybe just clean it up a bit, defragment it (in system tools), stick some more RAM in it, and place your dick in the fan.

If it isn't you might end up making a royal mess of things.I did the same last week (wiping and starting again) 'cos my computer got aids of the internet variety. Just had to hunt down all the drivers for everything. I'd back it all up onto another hard drive just in case it goes tits up, or you realise Vista is gay. I-LikeMatchesDerFun
Just re-install XP on it. You don't need the disc to reset it to factory settings. You will need to do all the automatic updates again and set up internet/wireless connections. I did it last month to my mothers laptop. It took about three or four hours to put back on programs, get the internet working and do the windows updates. It's a much better solution than to arse about with Vista. Papa Manual
If you have system restore enabled, select the first restore point.
Greetings
Hold on to XP, get Windows 7 when it's out. It's apparently a very good OS though still under development.
Broomer
i had to "wipe" my computer, but that was for a different reason.
I-LikeMatchesDerFun
How do i go about setting it back to facorty settings? You'll probably have to have a look on the PB site to find out that. But you need to restart the computer and while windows it loading you will press F12 or some other numbers. I did it to a Dell Inspirion so I'm not sure what button you will need to press for your computer. Have a google about "Resetting (you computer model) to factory settings without cd." I can't actually remember what I did to the Dell it was a matter of pressing the right buttons to get the process started and wait.
LiamWood!
The last restore point is October 2008 which is completly useless.Cheers matches, i will have a look now.
Papa Manual
I believe that Dells have a feature allowing you to wipe everything off except the operating system so it's pretty much like the first day you get the computer. A couple of other manufacturers have followed suit but it's not across the board.

However, you only 0.7 of a second to press it so you will need to restart your computer a few times. Or you might be lucky on the first go!
