Reinis.
I've been on this forum quite a while, but I still don't understand this - why are flat bars on the market? Everyone says that risers are better, and almost no one rides flat. I use flat bars and haven't ridden other trials bike than my So, what is the difference between riser bars and flat bars, and why do some people use flat (I bought mine, because I thought they look better, I was noob at trials then )? N.Wood
I'm not sure, every time i've ridden someones bike with flat bars it felt like my wrists were gonna snap off. They feel horrible to me, not sure why you would ever do it.I guess someone must like them though, otherwise they wouldn't make them. Muel
I find them unrideable.
Rusevelt
Flat bars were a popular years ago, but the natural progression of the sport has meant that todays trials specific risers offer more adjustablity, improved riding technique and less strain on the wrists. One main advantage with risers over flats is turning, or pivoting the bike.
bikeperson45
I'm no the look for some new bars because I hate my flats. Too low down (10* stem) and they just feel crap.My other risers felt nice till they snapped. Are flats stronger that risers? I would have thought they were because rises benddunno
TJ.
its just that some people find them nicer to ride with a high stem
Aaron.Tottman
shorter, lower bike they don't feel to bad. good for natural.anythiing 30+ bb feels like it pressing your shoulders together.but i love my ZOO! risers, they feel like flats tilted right forward! i'll have mine 45degree'ish most the time. r2wtrials
I have just gone back to Echo flats with a bit of a forward twist as they are the only bars i have tried that feel good with my knackered wrist... but i rode a Koxx boxx with much the same stem and set-up as my bike the other day that had Tryall Rage risers on and they were lovely... but 55 quid just to be trendy, not yet!! 0zzy
i cant phiscally ride with flats either, they feel horrible and make your wrists ache.
cultiv8ed_mike
If ur wrists ache it usually means the bars are too far forward. I found that with the old Echo bars when I first got em.I originally had risers then switched to flats as 31.8 risers were rare back in the day. Now they are common everyone switched back to risers. Alex Dark
risers are soo much better IMO....performance and loooks, i hate the look of flats, the bends just look so abrupt
shamus
don't get me wrong i think risers are great, i enjoy the space my rage bars provide as well!and most modern frames are designed around riser set-ups. but....was running brisa (anyone remember them?) flats until recently. loved them too bits, gave em to a mate who wanted to try flats otherwise i'd experiment between the two.flats are really comfy for me, never had issues and i want to try some again soon! Jamie East
Im also thinking of getting some riser bars, can anyone tell me the advantages of risers. Also when on the backwheel i always have to hop backwards, to regain balance, as my weight is too far back, would risers help with this?Jamie
Nickkkkk
i run some GU flats and it feels really comfortable. i stuck some risers onit the other week and it felt crap. i was riding a zoo python 06. i think it depends on wat bars you start of trials with which determines wat bars u will be comfortable with throughout... Bar and stem choices are the hardest things to get right EVER so its just really down to personal preferance, no body on here will be able to tell you what you should go for/like, only advise on their experiences. Also when on the backwheel i always have to hop backwards, to regain balance, as my weight is too far back, would risers help with this?Simple answer, no. Practice will.
andyb
The only flats i like are the brisa ones. But my fave bars are monty risers.Andy b
Henrik Y
I've tried a few Monty riser but I don't like them at all. I have riser on my 24" and I'm not really happy with it. I've tried an other Monty raiser on my GU 26" and not satisfied so I have Echo flat bars on both my 26" and 20" trial. As you see there's different opinions on this so you'll have to try for your self to know what you like. Matthew62
Used to run flats on a stock and i liked them - they do feel abrupt but for full on trials moves i like them, theres a feeling of stability and rigidity that i liked about them. My biggest complaint with them is that they were not good what so ever for even the slightest of streety moves, so i bought some Montys and extended them. They took a lot of getting used to and helped a bit with more fluid moves and were fine for normal trials. In general i found the risers more comfortable to use, and nowadays they're are so many trials specific risers you're spoilt for choice. Years back people ran flats as they were the only handlebars aimed for trials riders, not you have the best of both worlds. Now i'm on a 24'' i swithced to Deity risers as i didn't want trials specific bars, but was worried it would make trials feel a bit awkward......they don't really great bars and nice and wide - not sure i'd recommend them for mod or stock though. sstein
flats felt horrible at first, but I stuck with them and now I love them. Might go back to risers in a while but either are good.
