theres a really rusty bit in the middle of this picture..the kind of "L" shape...i'd guess it started round there..think it's safe to say that crack has been there a fair while!

the fact that water has clearly got in around the holes does not help this kind of thing- what are those holes for anyway? do they do stainless steel bmx cranks?

Holes for standard sprocket and nano drive sprocket.

But the fact that it has rusted isnt really my fault, i mean my bike goes indoors after every ride like. Just seems wierd where it rusted.

So from the fact that that one snapped due to rust, theres a chance my left one could go the same route? Especially as there no bolt in the biggest hole?

Perhaps they're made of iron.

Why is the chain on the other way round?

Less chain to catch on coping/rail/ledge
