Most of us use Adobe Premiere (preferably 2.0), there's a 30 day trial if that interests you.

It's going to be hard to find freeware which actually works. Most of these programs are over simplified which means they have virtually no potential whatsoever. You could google DVD Video Soft, they make some great little programs and I'm pretty sure they have a video editor as well.

Something worth knowing about adobe premiere is that it's not ridiculously expensive if you are a full time student in higher education. 80% saving in fact...
