Half Link Chains

Hi,

I need to get a half link chain so I can adjust my brakes to the right postition as they are currently pulled right back plus the maggy cyclinders are not square with the rim.

If I take a link out of my KMC K-7B chain, the wheel will move forwards too far and brake mounts would end up too far up so I need a half link for it to be perfectly in the middle.

My question is which half link chain should I get? There's the Echo SL chain over at selectbikes, tarty doesn't have any, t-uk are out of stock and there are these on ebay:

Thanks,

Savio

You only need one half-link. Seeing as two half-links makes one whole link, so the only extra adjustment you'd get is the length of one half-link!

I run one in my chain, and it's been fine! I took one out of my mates spare links from his Shadow Conspiracy one, although before that I bought a KMC one from AlansBMX, which I gave to Muel on here, thinking I no longer needed it... >_<

EDIT: Found one for cheaper than Alans, if it's a 1/8th you're after: http://sourcebmx.co.uk/product/drivetrain/...link/1245.shtml

Look on chainreaction, i found a chain which was like 12 quid, very much like the blank one which is on the site now, worked great for about 8 months! However when it started snapping it went big big time, like 6 times in a ride... but up until then it was good never any problems, and sorted out my tension issues...

I'm going to get a complete new chain, this one I have now that came with the whole bike from the previously is getting a bit loose.

Another quick question, should I get 1/8" or 3/32" size? It's for a mod, ffw and fixed rear.

1/8th for mod.

If I were you, I'd get a normal, stropnmg chain, KMC Kool or something, then just buy a single half-link and add that. Seeing as most half-link chains don't last long for trials, as they stretch so much!

I agree but it is not so much that they stretch (although it does contribute) but each link is held in place by only one pin rather than two and the bend in them weakens them.

Get a taya chain (£5.99 from halfords) and fit a single half link that you can get by being friends with a BMX or your LBS should have a few lying around. The taya chain looks like it will be shit but they are very strong and reliable. I normally break chains quickly but I have been riding this for about 4 months with no problem.
