Trials-uk Guy Asks For Card Data..

i recently made an order on trials-uk.co.uk (i know, it doesn't have great reviews but it has some great prices on the ultimate v-brake), and when i went through the steps of payment, it didn't charge anything for the shipping.

then i got this mail:

"

Hi there,

Thank you for your order,

We are currently experiencing problems with processing your order as we have not received the full postage cost,

Please can you forward us your payment details so we can debit the postage sub charge and get your order processed and completed and delivery to you.

I look forward to your reply,

Best Regards

Dan@Trials-uk

"

So i said that i want to know how much postage would be before i pay for it, so i got another mail:

"

Hi Andrei,

Thanks for your E-mail reply,

I have just checked your postage and its £30,00 with DHL which takes 2 days.

Please can you send the following details:

Type Of card: Visa, Master etc..

Long card number

Start date

Expiry date

Last 3 digit on the back of the card

Thanks!

Best Regards

Dan@Trials-uk

"

First of all, i think it's absurd to pay 30gbp for a package that shoul cost 5gbp to ship.

But let's say i can work it out and i get a decent shipping price, is it ok to ask for that data? I mean, he has access to all my money if he gets that data..

Need your input people!

thanks!

Simple answer - NO

there is no way he should have asked to send those details via email - totally unsafe and he should know better.

As for the fact that he is overcharging double NO

and also you already have the stuff so triple NO.

Definitely don't send card data on an email unless you encript it. You'll see web sites that take credit card data use https:// instead of http:// at the start of the web address, which means your information has been encripted before sending to the website. It's relatively easy to scan unencripted emails looking for data that looks like credit card info, so the probability of your information being stolen is relatively high depending where the email is routed through.

There is a possibility the email is not from who it claims to be either and is a phishing attempt. Before google checkout started taking my details correctly (It wanted a postcode and Ireland doesn't use them) I used to have to phone Tarty to give credit card details - this is almost always more secure than unencripted email. Of course getting through to them on the phone poses its own difficulties :(...

30 seems pretty reasonable?

How else does the forum propose zoster pay for the shipping?

reasonable??

it's at least 3 times what selectbikes or tartybikes or a random forum user would charge.

oh, in case anybody wonders what i got, is 2 ultimete v-brakes. thats all.

It's reasonable in that it's less than DHL's own site suggests it should cost!!!

I sent a pair of bars to this dude and it cost under £3. A pair of handle bars are a much more arkward shape and size than V brakes.

Look at the tariff I linked to, that's the price DHL have given. I'm assuming you used RM not a courier?

Given the postage isn't cheap, perhaps unreasonable, but it doesn't seem to be Dan's fault...

Do you have a Skype account? You could perhaps phone him using that?

He's not within the UK so.

so...? What? lol

That's why I suggested the Skype account, pretty sure you can make cheap calls to UK phones anywhere in the world if you set up an account. (Hassle I know but if you're going to be ordering from the UK often maybe it's something you should consider?)

i ordered yesterday from selectbikes the following:

a cog

a stem

a pair of cranks

a hub

a bashring

and a bb

and shipping price was 8 quid.

tarty bikes charged 9 quid for a hope disc brake and an avid ultimate (this was for a friend).

if he wants to get big prices on shipping, at least i should know before ordering and paying for them..

i sent him an email, i'll see what he is answering, before i make a bigger fuss than i should about this..

If you don't like the postage prices, order from someone else. But don't moan about it - £30 seems like a lot but it's clearly just the price of the courier that TrialsUK uses.

As for emailing the card details, don't do it. Not because you don't want Dan to have your card details (er, how do you expect him to charge you?!) but because it's not secure.

Well to be fair you've been given a last minute chance to back out of a trials-uk deal. Take it. You should never deal with trials-uk. They're a shit shop and offer a shit service.

The postage IS too much. If that's what trials-uk uses then fair enough, but there are cheaper services out there.
