I didn't get to one of my exams this morning because of snow. This means that I'll have to do a f**king access course now. I'm going to be in the red before I even start university!

An Access course next academic year, or this academic year? Surely there are provisions for missing exams due to extenuating circumstances?

I can resit in July but the results don't come out until September, which is too late.

It looks like I'm going to do an access course this coming September. The problem I have is that I no longer classify as a UK student and I receive no subsidy on the course fees (Guernsey doesn't pay tax to the UK). The local government here won't give me a grant for an access course either as they'd much rather I go back and finish my A-Levels. Screw that for a game of soldiers. I'll be paying three times more than UK students. And on top of that, the right shitter is that my parents won't support me. Anyone know where I can get a kilo of nice weed on the cheap? :shifty:

Have you considered talking to the universities about a foundation year? Some of my friends that didn't do so well in their A-levels (they smoked too much), entered universities like Oxford Brooks and UWE on foundation years. That way you can claim the same support you would get if you were entering the degree at the 'higher level', or whatever the correct term is. There's definitely no way you can qualify in the absence of this exam?

In terms of costs, without goverment support it was £1500 to do an Access course at the City of Bristol College. If you do three subjects, you're looking at about 14-16 hours a week class time. Many people maintained jobs whilst they did the course, and still passed. An individual with your intelligence wouldn't have any trouble.

Unfortunatly I have to complete all of the modules fully to qualify.

I've got some cash saved up so I'd easily be able to afford the course fees and rent etc. The only thing is that it'll leave me with nothing (or very little) to live on when I'm doing my degree. The UK government won't touch me in terms of support because I haven't lived in the UK for ages and the Guernsey government will only help me out with funding once I'm actually doing the degree. Even with their help, because of the higher course fees I'll be paying, there will be a significant short fall. I'll also be stuck with the problem of not having anywhere to live in the summer holidays.

SICK! The interview was cool, really laid back. And there was a pretty lass there too...

Lol.

So, I actually wouldn't mind going to trent, I think it's about 60/40 about going to trent at the moment, need to go to a sheffield open day.

Of course, this depends on whether I get an offer for trent, but I think that's pretty likely. :P

Guess they either really like you or the course is a joke...

I got an unconditional for music at london city without an audition :S I'm hoping the former applies...

Still waiting for all these slack admissions tutors to hurry up and get back to me.

Had one audition i'm waiting to hear from, got another coming up, and one unconditional.

I guess Mr OBM will know?

I'd go to Southbank just for the location, even if the course was shite haha.

Think i'm gonna go for City uni as it's in Islington, which is pretty sexy.

The course looks good, but so do most of the courses i've applied to...
