Trials D
I was just wondering if i used my old back rim and built it up to be a front wheel would that be alright...Or would there be some complication? . My forks are big enough to take the rim...if that helps ! ...I just didn't want to throw away money.. thanks !
Ben John-Hynes
Yes, it'll work fine. Will be even stronger than a standard front rim too, but it will be heavier. Tis well worth it though, do it and buy something else with the £30 you would have spent.
Adam-Griffin
Depends really, What size is the rear rim ? What brake are you planning on running ? I've always wanted to build a "19 rear rim onto a front hub
Sidehop Stuart
Disc or magura?
Ben John-Hynes
Oh shit yeah, you ride mod? Didn't think of that...You could still build a 19" front wheel. Would need another 19" tyre though..
Mike Winton.
Would need forks wider than URR MUMMandyeah 19 inch tyre spokes and youd have a nightmareJust swap the rim for a front one

Muel
The front of your bike would feel so much heavier than with a front rim and tyre on, it's probably not worth doing if you ask me.
Adam-Griffin
The front of your bike would feel so much heavier than with a front rim and tyre on, it's probably not worth doing if you ask me.About 450g*, which isn't actually an awful not if your not concerned about weight, i wouldn't notice it.Although if it bothers you that much just cut out the iner wall of your rim, assuming it's a double wall rim or cut some nobbles of your tyres *Based on running Echo tyres and Try-all rims. Jaffacakes
It would feel and look amazing. If you run front disk deffently do it and post pics. If you run a magura, I very much doubt your break will space out far enough not to rub. Maby If you had ultra worn out pads you could do it... You might have to think about raising your bars too. Adam-Griffin
What about the half an inch difference in size ?Also, the size of the sidewall "19 tyres makes up for what your missing.
Ryan.
To sum up what everyones said; It's to much hassle when front rims are cheaper anyways?
Adam-Griffin
To sum up what everyones said; It's to much hassle when front rims are cheaper anyways? Not if you already have a rear rim
Jaffacakes
You should deffenlty do it. Go breakless, bend your forks if neccessary.
Ben John-Hynes
If you have a front disk, do it and get pics! If not, buy a front rim.
Bigman
Like has been said running a rear rim on the front is perfectly fine, especialy if you have a 26inch as if it were a mod you would end up adding a great deal of weight to the front of the bike as you would have to run a much larger tyre. What rim is it you are thinking of running? There were a few american riders who ran rear 19inch rims and tyres on the front of thier mods, always looked strange to have such a big setup on the front of the bike, must have been good when you needed some bounce/stability on the front wheel, but like has been said it would weigh alot more.Adam
El Cristoff
Yeah, i saw an '07 czar mod with a 19" wheel up front, looked... interesting to say the least
NVWOCI WVS
There's an American (possibly Canadian) website which sold complete deng bikes with 19" front wheel setups. They reckon they were awsome for when you need lots of front wheel grip, and they looked pretty cool too. Imagine the bounce when you're tapping or whatever... Trials D
.Thanks all for replying ..Really quickly But i do ride mod.. but it is a 26 " rim for a stock bike ... ..The front brake would be a hydraulic disc brake ...so i just need a front disc hub right? (so the brake would work)
FeriTrial
I use echo front rim at the rear. It is fairly enough, because of the 40mm wide.
A.Baxter
I fits a 26" rim that means your going to need some 26" forks, which would completley mess the ryd of the bike up. To be honest i think its probably too much hassle for what it's worth. I would just buy a new front 20" rim and fit that.Adam
Connor Powell
Webcyclery Did this with a Czar mod, They had the 19" wheel up front aswell as the rear, looked pretty cool.
Trials D
I think i am going to do it .. but not just yet .. And if i do build one up .. i will definitely put up pictures Edited January 6, 2009 by Trials D

curt-echo-control
Should be fine with a discIf u wanna run magura, get a set of tensile offset magura mounts, this will let u run a wider rim on a narrow frame or fork
