Muel
Right, I need help. As we know, I bought a great deal off here, then proceeded to spill water on it. I've slowly replaced parts until I'm now stuck with a computer with all new components and still f**k all. Spec is (base, just to boot up to BIOS at least would be nice...): AS Rock N68C-S UCC AMD Athlon 64 X2 7550 2.5 GHz Socket AM2+ 2MB Cache OEM Processor G7 Power Extreme 680W 2x 2G DDR2 PC 800C I press the power button, the fans spin, nothing else happens. No beeps, nothing on the monitor, nothing. What the f**k have I got wrong? I'm assuming something isn't compatible with something else, but I haven't got a clue what. It all seems compatible to me... But I know nothing. HELP! EDIT: Actually the RAM was part of the system that got drowned, just seen some traces of water damage on it too. Suppose that's the thing to replace next then! I've only had those symptoms with dead ram before. I need help too! Tonight I installed a Gigabyte GT430 PCI-e graphics card to my PC because I'm now running two LG 22" Widescreens. This card seems to be interfering with my sound card - M Audio Audiophile PCI. Is there an obvious cause? I looked at a few sites and there seems to be endless things to eliminate, which is highly annoying. No real idea to be honest, but sounds like driver shit to me. I always just wipe Windows and start again in that case, always works out to be quicker. Think my HDD is on its last legs. It's lasted pretty well and is now only a secondary drive, but it's making some pretty funky noises Shame I have approximately zero funds to replace it Run HDTune on it (ideally steal the full version) and do the health check and error scan. If they have 0, then it's fine, 1 or more and it's dying. Cheers man, but I ordered a 4gb stick tonight just to be sure everything is brand new... Hopefully that sorts it! 4gb sticks are DDR3 usually, but the RAM you said you already had was DDR2, sure it's going to work mate?
JD™
4gb sticks are DDR3 usually, but the RAM you said you already had was DDR2, sure it's going to work mate? Yea the motherboard has 2 slots for each. I had DDR2 already from Kev, but because that was water damaged I thought I'd play it safe and use the other slots instead... Plus it supports up to 8gb so I guess I'm futureproofing myself a little bit too.
Muel
Ah, standard. Other than that I'm lost for ideas to be honest. How come it has a dual core CPU now btw? Thought you got a quad from Kev?

Thought you got a quad from Kev? Was just testing what did and didn't work - the quad will go back in if it turns out to be the ram that's the problem, which I guess is likely now! When the ram goes in every single part will be brand new, so there's no reason it shouldn't work...
Muel
Fair enough. Ah well, you can build a spare computer up in that case.
JD™
Yea it'll probably all go into a backup server at the office, or I'll just sell it all for a very small amount of pennies towards 24 stuff.
TrialsIsHard
Will uninstalling Skyrim delete my save games from the 'steamapps' folder? It says it will delete everything to do with skyrim on this computer, and that sounds like it will! Really not up for starting again Any help? Muel
Probably not, but just make a copy of them first?
TrialsIsHard
Probably not, but just make a copy of them first? I have done, but 60 gig isn't exactly memory stick territory! I have got it downloading it via the internet, rather than disk which I was originally trying. It's taking 3 hours but saves me losing my game
Muel
I mean just copy it to the desktop lol. Why are you uninstalling it anyway?
TrialsIsHard
I mean just copy it to the desktop lol. Why are you uninstalling it anyway? Oh right I bought a new internal 1tb hard drive for my PC, and moved all my personal files over to the new one. When I loaded up skyrim it was looking in C:/My Games etc.. and it had all been moved to O:/My games etc.. so I had to uninstall steam, then reinstall it onto my new hard drive so it would look in the right drive for the save games and that lot. Sounds like a lot of bother, and it was It's not like I don't want to play it anymore!
Muel
Ah, I've done that before. Just copy the My Games folder to My Massive Vagina, then reinstall steam, rename the folders and it should be fine.

CurtisRider
I have an Advent 7204 laptop that i was given. It recognises the original hd and the spare i have, yet when i try to install windows, it claims there is no drive. I have tried to find drivers but the only one i can find keeps insisting on using a floppy disc... What can i do? Both of the hds work on my pc when i connect them up (using the guts of an external drive case) and have been fully formatted. I have tried installing windows with the laptop and a pendrive, but it doesnt let me. As you may be able to tell, im not massively good with computers
Muel
Can you boot an Ubuntu live cd on it? See what the hard drive looks like in there? It might be something wrong with the main board or some of the cabling, or an incompatibility thing.
