Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this error message everytime I start my computer please?

It was after reinstalling sound drivers and installing them. It's so annoying...

*Desktop snip*

Have a read through this thread.

It appears to be associated with a USB microphone driver.

I have a 40" Samsung lcd TV, and noticed there is a line about 2/3rds of the way down the screen. Black and then fades out. Its only a few months old which is pretty annoying.

Does anyone know what can cause this, or if there is a quick remedy before I go down the route of taking it back to Argos?

Technically not a PC question, but it doubles up as my PC monitor.

If you have a stuck pixel, you can sometimes unstick it with various methods. For a line I don't think you can though, I'd take it back.

Stuck/faulty pixels are a bit of a grey area though - unsure if this is the case with this screen, however you will often find that manufactures have a percentage loss depending on the size of the screen, this can be up to 8 pixel loss before the screen is deemed to be faulty.

Each manufacture has their own tolerence, but usually the cheaper the monitor the higher the tolerence.

I'm looking at getting a laptop for uni (taking the desktop overseas might be a bit far). Probably looking around £350 mark, and I've immediatly found this. Thoughts?

I know I probably shouldn't, but Steam will probably be going on this, and at the moment I'm eying the 2gb of RAM with some reservations. Can RAM be swapped out in a laptop easily enough, provided you've got the right sized sticks?

generally yea, theres an access panel on the back, you unscrew and it clips in, some netbooks have it soldered in, so theres only one slot available, but generally its a doddle.

I'm trying to install flight sim on my other PC. I have a internal and external hard drive.

I want it to be on the external so when it gave the option of where to install I chose the external hardrive. It has installed most files on there but I also noticed that it have installed into program files on the internal drive. But I only want the files on the external drive so what should I do? :)

My netbook has no soldered RAM, but only one slot so I can only get 2gb in there. Not an issue really though, the CPU is so pitiful it's not worth trying to make it do anything tricky.

Cheers guys. I'll probably never need to, but at least I should be able to hash a bigger stick in there if I need to.

Trying to connect a blutooth headset up to my computer. Says it didn't install correctly and needs to install a driver which it can't find. But apparently blutooth headsets don't have drivers.

Works fine with the PS3.

Any ideas?

It's a Samsung wep460

You don't. I have a similar model Toshiba and it's the same way.

Using VLC player helps, as you can turn things up to 200%. Also, there was a little setting in sound options that made it a tiny bit louder but nothing worth doing.

Nope, just everything you play in Winamp.

Found this after some googling:

- Right click the speaker icon in the task bar (or choose Control Panel : Sound).

- Select Playback Tab : Speakers : Properties.

- Select Enhancements Tab.

- Check the Loudness Equalization box and click apply.

Volume should now be substantially louder.

Modifying Equalizer and Environment settings may also provide a boost.

If you've got some sound software, like Realtek, etc, it's got a mixer on the program, you could just max everything out there too.

I think this is what I did but it only made the tiny difference.

If you come up with a solution let me know.

I wouldn't recommend it. I'm sure it will be possible with a little research, however you have to keep in mind that you'll be pulling data from that drive to play the game...USB is quick, but not that quick. I predict you'll experience a bit of lagging, possibilty frequent crashes/hangs.

Keep in mind that when you install anything it has to write entries into the system registery - which is why it is better to keep things local. If you install on the external drive then the program doesn't know where to locate the additional files as they're not local to the drive...and of course your USB doesn't have a registery.

As I said, there may be a way....

So how the hell do i make my laptop louder?!

Buy some external speakers...end of.

The speakers in your laptop will be cheap basics and are limited, most probably, to avoid damage and distortion. I've never seen a laptop with what you'd call 'great' sound play.

You can pick up some speakers pretty cheap these days, even the tiny mobile ones if you want a boost and aren't too concerned with quality.

I've got Ubuntu 10.04 running on a Samsung R710. I booted using the Ubunu Live CD and repartitioned the HDD (as it was only in one partition, containing Ubuntu 10.04) to create a space to install Windows XP Pro SP3. At this point everything was lava. Just to make sure everything was fine I ran Ubuntu and had a little look around. All was great and I could see the partition whilst at the same time everything still worked on Ubuntu. From there I restarted and booted from the Win CD and installed it on the new partition. Now when I start the laptop it comes up with 'Disk error, press any key to reboot' (or something very similar). When I do press any key it just repeats the message. To clarify, neither operating system works. Any ideas? I've thought that it's perhaps because the computer doesn't know which operating system to use as the dual boot program thingy hasn't been set up. Any help would be appreciated.
