Sidehop Stuart
At the moment my star nut is too far down my Echo forks. I dont want to replace the star nut. At the moment I'm using a screw which doesnt work well as an ordinary bolt.Does anyone know where I can get a long enough bolt with an allen key top? I've looked on Tartybikes and Trials-uk but I'm not sure which is long enough. Will a brake booster bolt do the job?Stu.
Jordan GU
No a brake booster bolt is to thick, I had the same problem Stu I ended up having to buy a star nut, there such a pain to fit.
cai
Brake booster is m4 (too small because star nuts are m5)look in ebay type "m5 40mm bolt" in - that should do the trick...
Sidehop Stuart
Thanks for the help.Do you think it's best if I knock my existing star nut down and then fit another one slightly higher up?
Jordan GU
Yes if you can't find a bolt that will fit, then you will have to buy a new star nut.

Dan6061
They're M6... M5 are Magura bolt size, which are usually too small for top caps!
Muel
Knock it out the bottom with a long piece of wood, then use the top cap and bolt to put it back in the fork.
Dan6061
Knock it out the bottom with a long piece of wood, then use the top cap and bolt to put it back in the fork. Not a bad idea, but most trials forks (Echos do...) have a weld around the bottom so the starnut won't be able to come out without it getting mangled! Sidehop Stuart
Do you reckon I could knock it back up an inch from underneath with a long piece of wood?
CurtisRider
no, because it is designed to grip into the steerer when it it pulled upwards otherwise it'd be useless when you preload the headset with it
Fixed Pantsâ„¢
If you can get it to grip the staw nut without a stem or anything on it, tighten it up a goodun and it'll pull itself up.

Tomm
Just take the old bolt to a hardware shop and say that you need one like this, but 10mm longer. As for the other suggestions, where is the common sense?!
sstein
If you are not too sure get a shop to do it. Otherwise take some rachet extender bolt and a hammer and smash that b*tch out, then fit a new one.
Alex Dark
just smash it out the bottom....then go to "insert LBS here" and buy a star nut.....1" fr the thick alloy steerer deng forks, 1 1/8th for pretty much every other fork
Sidehop Stuart
I'm going to get my forks cut so then the they aren't sloped, and then the star nut will be half an inch further up.Problem solved. Thanks everyone for there input.
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Oh dear, theres no need to go cutting your forks... just buy a longer bolt like people have said... also, the bolt is M6, M5 is too small, as thats what your magura mounts are...
