Pashley26
Those key points, out weigh eachother. I'm wanting an origional untouched car, which means there the top end of the 205 price range. If I can find myself a reasonabley smart, well documented 205 for about £1300-£1500 I'll be happy. Not really, don't bother going for second best if you plan on getting the best you can (if that makes sense...)An immaculate 1.6 will be worth considerably less than a 1.9 because it will always play second fiddle to the larger and unfortunately better car.It would be like having an immaculate but poverty spec Renault 5 Gordini, which would only ever be worth £2000 but a later 5 Turbo would be worth more because it's the better car.I've had a few pints, maybe ignore me if that doesn't make sense. Which capri would you buy Jarrod? 3.0 or 2.8i?I've also heard on many more than one occasion that the 1.6 is the better of the 2 cars to live with, and just as fun to drive. And yeah, I was a little confused by the whole, 'don't spend over a grand... oh, but buy the best you can' thing Sounds good TB, I've heard nothing but good things about GTI's, they seem like awesome little cars if you don't mind a bit of tinkering, and they're only going to go up in value. I still want to give an ex-colleague of mine a slap for selling a lush good condition 1.6 GTI to buy a 1.4l 206. What the hell he'd been taking before making that decision I don't know. Pashley26
You guys are retards.I said don't spend more than a grand on a 1.6, because it will always play second fiddle to the 1.9. By all means spend loads of money on an immaculate GTI, I can't think of many cars I'd rather have than a sorted 205 GTI. Just don't buy the one which isn't the best ? And so you can say I'm being pedantic I'd have the 3L over a 2.8 any day, there is no replacement for displacement.
Tom Booth
Where are you getting the fact the 1900 is better then the 1600 from? Like me and Robin have said, speaking to people who have actually OWNED the cars and people in the know when it comes to 205s, a lot have recommended the smaller engined car for practicality. Just because theirs a few more ponies under the bonnet doesn't make it the better car.Ha, No replacement for Displacement. FI

I've never ever heard anyone say that a 1.9 is better than a 1.6 in any way other than a strait line race, however I've heard many people say that there is a few advantage's to the 1.6. Also, there is a replacement for displacement, and it's called brake mean effective pressure.

twentyinch
If your getting a 205 Tom dont waste your time and money with a 1.6.. However a friend of mine has a road friendly tarmac rally set up 205 with a MI-16 engine running twin 45's etc etc. I'll find some pictures..Tom i think you know porter? Rides bmx?Running 309 wide track now and some flaired arches... Car is forsale aswell. 218bhp iirc, Twin 45's head work, stage 3 rally cam... I carmnt remember the whole spec. All braided fuel and brake lines running through the car now too. Its a minter! Edited November 11, 2009 by twentyinch

Tom Booth
Yeah I know Porter (well, met him years ago, seen his 205 thrashing round a few ties too!) Looks gorgeous, really like it
Pashley26
Almost three year bump seeing as everybody hates my use of the car thread. I whipped my lights off today, front bumper etc and wet sanded my lights and removed some shit I didn't really need. Doing a feck load of my own mapping, I'm currently 8bhp peak up on stock and have got a lot of torque mid range. Still need to tweak the timing at the point of peak torque, looking for 12.5.1 AFR. dann2707
Is that headlight finished?
Pashley26
Is that headlight finished? Yup, as good as I could get it. I spent about an hour per light. Started with 400 grit wet and dry, then 600, then 1200, then 1500 grit and polished it with my rotary and some T-Cut. Properly common problem on Clio's, they crack and craze so bad. A decent used set of lights is £300.
dann2707
Fair enough, i can't really comment as i've never done a headlight but its as if it needs "jewelling" to get that nice gloss back. Perhaps using a proper headlight polish would give better results than T-cut. Never heard of people using that before on headlights!
Pashley26
It was the thing I had the most of which I didn't mind using and might have worked haha! I'll get some new lights for it, but I just wanted something to take the yellow off for now
Haz
You can get them so much better than that if you use a machine polish. Is my mates Cup after we gave his a good seeing too. I would have thought you of all people would have that shit shinier than a shiny thing which has been recently shined.
