AdamAllen
I say, aslong as you make sure you pay attention in house training it, you'll be fine, Weve had a few over the years and its only the first few months when they just shhit n that where they want, after that, they practically live outside... Go for it.
Skoze
My cat's been fine to me, mum hated them before, but she gets on with it ok!They don't take much to look after, just feed them twice a day and take them to the vets as and when they need it and you'll be fine They seem to be naturally house trained so to speak, mine knew what the litter tray was for as soon as it saw it. (that's one of the downsides of having a cat, the ugly tray they crap in overnight) Just keep an eye on them in the early days though! You'll need food, a bowl for said food, somewhere for them to sleep/ a bed, toys, a litter tray + litter incase they need to have a dump overnight, and possibly a box to put it in when you take it to the vets. Not alot required really, just look after it! Ravemonkey
I hardly every see my cat, he only comes home to eat or if it is raining heavily, the rest of the time he's out doing whatever cats do.I don't know what it would be like to have a cat in a big town/city though, they might act different. But i think in general cats are quite good at looking after themselves and are a low maintenance pet. There might be some mess to start with though as you are getting a kitten, beware of scratching as they destroy your sofas And if you still have the rabbits/fish you may want to secure their cage/tank so the cat doesn't get themThings to buy: Scratchpost Litterbox + litter May need to get wormed/vaccines etc Food Bowls Collar with name tag Bed (mine just sleeps on a chair) Toys?Hope i helpedIf you are looking for a low maintenance pet get a corn snake Edited December 12, 2008 by Ravemonkey
Skoze
Yeah, forgot the scratching post! That's a pretty important one if you value all vertical surfaces in your house.
Rebelistic
If you do get a cat, please get one from a shelter. Don't buy one from the pet shop. Every day loads of heathy cats (and dogs etc.) are killed because no one wants them as a result of over breading. They are often killed in the cheapest way that is not the most painless way - please don't contribute to this. Adopt a cat and save their life. Also remember the saying "a cat is for life, not just for Christmas".Sorry, I don't mean to come across as preachy or anything - its just a lot of people overlook this and buy one without thinking. Revolver
I heard somewhere, to stop your car scratching surfaces, you can cover them in honey or something. Cats don't like the sticky feeling.Course, painting your sofa in honey isn't a great idea. Maybe put some sticky back plastic on it first and the honey on that. Skoze
Dude, your cats have srs camouflage skills.Ash, mine hardly ever attacks my sofa, if you make sure it knows from an early age not to do it, and has a scratching post handy they should be fine

Dan6061
Get a ginger cat. Both the ones we've had have been so weird! it's funny. One got really fat while we were on holiday, weighed twice the amount an average cat should...The other one is weird, you can pick him up, hang him upside down, and he won't be fussed. Put him in the fridge for a minute once too, opened it up and he just stayedin there! Slept in the sink in the bathroom for a while too... haha. Greetings
We do and they just give off so much hairs its unreal.Don't know much about cats but surely you could treat it with some anti-balding shampoo? If it's loosing too much hair, there must be something wrong with it.
