Rear Bb7 Keeps Unbedding Itself

Hey all, i managed to get a 203mm rear BB7 for my 24uk about 2 weeks ago, i fitted it and bedded it in using the hill/ water technique, and it works amazing.

However, when ever i leave my bike in the garage overnight, by the morning it has no hold, no bike and just feels horrid. I can get it working again by putting water on the disk, and riding around for a bit, but i want it to work constantly like my front BB7 does.

Has anyone got any suggestions/ ideas as to what is causing this?

All help appreciated,

Chris x

I had a disk that behaved like that but the reason for it was that it was leaking really slowly from the pistons onto the brake pads. On a mechanical disk I'd pull the pads out, give the caliper a good clean (Make sure that the oil or grease on the caliper mechanism isn't seeping out), clean the disk with IPA (or loads of soap and water), sand the pads clean and reassemble. If it happens again have a look for fresh contamination...

Does your cycle home involve oily puddles? I've seen it happen occasionally on XC bikes where forestry machinery contaminates the puddles on trails with oil, but it's a very long shot...

Does it squeak/make strange noises? If so, it's contaminated!

I put the pads and rotor in the dishwasher, then gave them another wash in warm soapy water, just to be sure, then put it all back on, and it's awesome!

That's a 203mm on a mod too, bit overkill...but it's nice. :P

Yeah, it squeeks sometimes :(

I'll try boiling it later, then sand the pads, that should work quite well :)
