weirdoku
1, Yes they do work and are worth buying, IF you have them setup right. I have cams with teeths/notches, I wind it up as as tight as the chain can go with my hands, the chain should still be a bit loose still . I then get a pair of pliers, hold onto the cam and wind it up one more notch, this makes my chain nice and tight. Smooth cams are ok...but in my experience they slip. 2, Any cams with 10mm holes will work. I'm assuming your hub axle are 10mm sized. I'm using teethed trialtech ones. Cams go on the outside face of the dropouts on your 221, like in this pic. Link. Simple to put on and no need to take the wheel off.3, If not, for some reason, which I can't think of any in your case (on your 221 pr). The alternative that I almost went with is to use the 74Kingz single speed tensioner, but you need a longer chain for it to work right. But then it would look odd on a mod. J Trials 31
I don't think you'll be disappointed the Monty's are the best ones out there and paired with the Monty frame they should work good.
Ryan.
the monty tensioners are the best snail cam's i ever used when i had my monty. They're notched so they won't f**k about sliding everywhere like the echo versions.
Captain Scarlet
Don't bother with the Echo ones (its not the fact they are not notched, as afterall they then have an infinate degree of adjustment), but they are too small in comparision to the Try-All, Trialtech, and monty ones.Countless amount of times I have run out of adjustment on my Echo ones. And also read in carefully for each set of snail cams as each has different spacing on the rear hub (Try-All ones are thinner than Echo ones, and Monty ones are sometimes used on the outside of the frame). If you've got a Monty frame, I'd go for the Monty snail cams. Gandalf the Yellow
sorry to steal the topic.but my ZHI snail cams are buggered, they have notches but seems like 1 of the notches had too much stress and 2-3 smaller notches have become 1 large 1, meaning i can't get past that point for adjustment.i guess i need a strong 1 that doesn't bend to shit! anyone can recommend me some??thankssteve
Greetings
Chain tugs are a good alternative. It's much easier to fine adjust your wheel with those and you can get the chain much tighter.I run snail cams on my stock which I hate. They keep moving and one can't really screw the wheel down without them twisting in the direction of the thread. That's because they're on the outside of the frame but still it's a big nuisance. If you decide to get snail cams, I'd recommend Monty's. However, Monty snail cams are 2mm thick each, most frames are spaced 116mm which means you need 3mm cams. In extreme cases, this may result in the chainstays cracking.Ignore, if you have a Monty then you're safe. NVWOCI WVS
Zhi cams are nice and big=more adjustment and less cam-death. Monty cams are shite.
Gandalf the Yellow
my zhi's are shit. any alternatives that me last me? with equally good range of adjustment?by the way, you can alwas whack a washer in between, which i've done for my DOB and monty ti hubs (106mm) and normal mod hubs are 110mm... no cracks and works ok by the looks of things.steve
