My Koxx Xtp 2 Cracked :( :( :(

Shouldn't really be doing this but I couldn't resist mocking Koxx just a bit...

If that's an XTP then read on.

CAUTION:

K-ALONE must be handled with caution. It should be regarded as the ultimate “no compromise” weapon. It will not tolerate unnecessary shocks and badly timed riding. Equipment manufactured from his revolutionary material is intended for use by Elite competition and professional ride

Obviously that's just a fancy way of saying it's weak.

Good luck with getting a warranty replacement. Remember - if anybody asks you, you're an Elite rider with incredibly good timing.

Well no, in fact the opposite: K-Alone material is stronger than standard (6061, 7075) alloys, meaning you can use thinner tubes to save weight and the frame ends up the same strength. This is ideal for skilled riders who don't hit the frame tubes, as they can benefit from a lighter frame.

Think of it like a touring car compared with a stock car... One is heavier with less performance but will take some knocks, the other is super light with very high performance and will only take one or two knocks.

It's a very wierd place to crack, if it had been down the the frame being bashed and dented it would have gone there.

It could have just been a duff weld, when I rewelded my T-Pro a few times it cracked in the same way, following the weld round the tube. That hadn't been heat treated though. :P

Hope it gets sorted anyway Jamie!

That's the big problem here. They all bloody do it, i swear. "We found a stronger material/ welding process/ heating process/ manufacturing process, so if we reduce the weight then the strength will still be the same". Shame that. The UKs street market is clearly not big enough to be cared for by KOXX

Right, understood from that description that K-Alone is just stiffer, not stronger in general.

I'm not sure it's as simple as that, some alloys have better welding properties etc. It'd be interesting to see how long the new Echo frame lasts since both that and the XTP weigh around the same while they're made of different alloys.
