Avid Bb5 Or Bb7

Lewis-Trials

Recommended Posts

Hi well ive got a specialized p1 08 and ive got the Avid BB5 on the front and back. The back one is working superb but the front has never been the same after i broke it and so i need to buy new cable. when i put the brake back on and the rotor was bent looking in where the rotor is ment to be straight on to the pads. I can see ives got a buckle in the rim and will be getting sorted very soon but does that mean when the front wheel buckles the rotor becomes buckled with the rim. And if so does that mean ill have to buy new rotor or am i best to just buy a Avid BB7 of ebay for the front.

im sure you dont need a whole new one.

take it into your local bike shop see what they have to say.

or even ring up tarty.

Okay i was just thinking if i could get a cheap one of ebay if not soon. then just get the front wheel trued and try and get them to straighten it up or just buy new one for £10

You seem pretty insistent about the bb7, if you want one then buy it. So you know most discs that have been used have a slight bend in them, not usually a problem, but one off of ebay will probably be the same as yours, try just bending yours back or get your lbs to do it.

Alright thanks i was thinking of getting a Avid Bb7 for the front becuase there used by trials riders. or just buy a new rotor or what

Put some research into it before you go and buy something, instead of buying it because you'd heard "it's a good brake" or whatever else your buying.

:D

You don't need the whole new brake set-up, as people have said try get the disc straightened, buy a new cable if needs be but dont go for a new bb7. There just not as good as a well set up bb5 in my opinion, they seem to hold much better and still have modulation.

When a rim is buckle it does not effect the hub, therefore does not effect the rotor for the brake.

Your bb 5 prob just needs setting up, new pads, cables, bit of lube in the outer cable and adjusting so it bites etc.

Rotor always bend, as said above - use a small adjustable spanner to get it running correctly. chance are you won't get it straight but do your best to get it so it doesn't rub on the pads.

The upgrade of bb5 to bb7 is mainly the dial adjustments on both sides of the brake caliper. BB7 has two, BB5 has one. Possible slightly different caliper body design but I;m sure as you already have the Bb5 you could get it set up to work as well. Save your money for other much needed parts, like stronger rims :)
