I am moving to a new Flat Next Month Which Has a BT Line. So am Looking at What good broadband Providers are out there.

Im on Virgin 2MB At the Moment, which is a bit hit and Miss. Sometimes its good, sometimes slow. And It cant cope very well when im on my PC, and the other 1/2 is on her laptop.

What im after is something With good consistancy in the speed, and can cope with 2 computers being online without bogging down. I do a fair amount of downloading aswell as playing games on Xbox 360 and PC.

Seeing as the Flat has Sky alrady we were thinking of using that for Tv and noticed they do Internet aswell, is it any good?

Im after something fater than we have, was looking at the Sky 16MB.

I was told to look at http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk, and done a postcode checker and it says the top speed of my line is 6.5MB. Does that mean in tis area, or on this current conection? Dont want to pay for 16MB if im only going to get 6.

All I can tell you Lee is that Sian's step-dad has the whole sky, phone, internet package and were running 2 pc's and 3 laptop's. I've never had a problem with connection speed, or during downloads. I'm not sure what size they've got.

I think the 6.5 mb is the most for your area, as I think it's down to how far you live from your nearest telephone exchange.

I maybe wrong though, I'm sure that how far you live fron the exchange effects your broadband somehow.

Critical words there. If your going to be using optical the 20mb virgin package is actually okay. If its ADSL then bethere/o2 (same company) are the best choice due to low prices and no restrictions on downloads, bandwidth, fair usage etc. I think if you have an o2 mobile you can get another couple of quid knocked off the bill each month as some kind of loyalty reward.

EDIT: Just checked out that link and its repeated exactly what I've said. My line is 6.5mb for ADSL too and it recommends the o2 up to 8mb package for £7.50 a month (£12.50 for non o2 customers).

They're estimating 70% of the UK is going to have the new equipment in the next few weeks though (end of 2008) so for the majority of people it will be the best service available. Theres also a line checker on the site though that will tell you which packages are available in your area.
