anzo
The pub industry is already dying after the smoking ban - in my home town over 6 pubs have shut, a town at one time that was considered a 'night out' has now turned into a 'casual pint' as most people just tend to make the effort to travel to Derby or Nottingham. So, with landlords already struggling to make ends meat, lets push the prices up and push the customers further away, it's completely ridiculous. Sooner than later they'll be no more traditional English pubs, just corporate owned clubs that play DJ.f**king.Sammy on repeat whilst a load of 15 year olds attempt to breakdance to it and down bottles of breezers. Can't wait. JT!
I've never seen any change round here when they banned smoking, which i think was a very good thing. In fact i only started going out when smoking was banned. (That didn't really make sence, i never went out when smoking was allowed so i didn't really have much to compare to, but you get what i mean).Me personally, i'm all for stopping the deals where you get two drinks in pubs and bars etc, because that is increasing the alcohol people drink. Putting the price up isn't going to help anything.
Fish-Finger-er
Me personally, i'm all for stopping the deals where you get two drinks in pubs and bars etc, because that is increasing the alcohol people drink. Putting the price up isn't going to help anything.its not really though, me, and most of my friends go out, get suitably drunk, and come home, if some idiot offers me 2 for 1, im not going to say no, likewise, im not going to drink much more, im just gunna have £10 more at the end of the night. likewise the 2 for 1 offers, are the main thing that gets me out into the pubs/clubs, as opposed to drinkin at home. Vodka revolution for example, isnt cheap. but on mondays, its heads/tails, they flip a coin, you call it, if you get it right, they double your order for free. whereas before paying £20 for 10 shots, and 2 vk's, isnt really all that. in fact id rather sit at home and get trashed for a fiver, then go out to a club after. but suddenly add the gambling element in there, and the fact for that 20 pounds, i now get 20 shots of absolut flavoured vodka, and 4 vks. and its a fun way to spend a few hours. Simpson
likewise the 2 for 1 offers, are the main thing that gets me out into the pubs/clubs, as opposed to drinkin at home.Exactly, even if its 2quid drinks before 11 in clubs it doesn't interest me in the slightest, because who the f**k goes clubbing before 11? For the the social bit of the night out is the best, mostly in the form of a heavy pre-lash with a games console, then to the pub to meet more people and finally the club, to not buy many drinks and minesweepOh an quick edit: By trying to reduce binge drinking by increasing prices is bullshit, teens probably have the most dispensible income compared to adults who pay morgages, food, upkeep etc.... whereas teenagers live with their parents, have saturday jobs or rich parents, but in most cases big student loans Edited November 11, 2008 by Simps
Has anyone seen my shoe?
I work in a pub and have really noticed the hit of this recession. Since of where we are placed (no where near town center) alot of the drinkers wont come. Good thing is we do excellent food for a pub and so that trade is keeping us afloat

(2 motorbikes, check out the RSQ thread for my boat plans) if people put the price up to £4.50 a pint, and £15 for a 75cl bottle of vodka, id still go out, id just drink more vodka before i went out, then drink 1 or 2 less in the pub, and bus it back rather than get a taxi. Simpson
But the thing is if drinks cost more at pubs and clubs will i go out less? - NoIf drinks are more will i pour as much vodka / cider / anything down my neck before getting to the club? - YesKinda encourages binge drinking lol
