jordan282
I can side hop up my patio (about 1.5 foot) easily with no problems. However, when i try and go any higher, i just seem to either take my feet of the pedal or just not quite get my back wheel on the wall. Does anybody know anything that can help me or have any usefull tips they could give to help me get higher. Thanks

spaceman
Hmm.I am the same. What I did was, stopped learning them! That's what I did too! I've been doing it the wrong way, as in hopping on the side of the forward foot. The highest I could go was 20''I'm going to learn the "correct" way after Christmas
Revolver
Yeah, I do them the 'wrong way'.What I'm learning is to pedal into my front wheel slighly diagonally.
mr ailsbury
There's no "wrong way" to do a side hop, everyone should just do them to the side that they're most comfortable with. I can do them both ways but 99% of the time I go to the side of my front foot. When I was learning to do them I looked at the top of the wall rather than at the side of the wall so that I didn't get put off by how high the wall was.concentrate on jumping rather than kicking, your going up not forwards! just get yourself comfortable on the back wheel, let your brake off and jump as high as you can. Concentrate on getting the hight rather than how far onto the wall you can get, if you throw the bike to far sideways and overshoot your more likely to fall off.hope that helps a bit mate
Tom_
I couldnt do them, atall. Then I tried swapping sides to the "correct" side and I have to admit it made alot of difference, despite not feeling totally natural. I can now (could a few months ago anyway) go just under bar height. It must be said though once you have the technique you dont suddenly become ali c and be able to sidehop skips. It takes shit loads of practice. Just go out and enjoy it.
spaceman
There's no "wrong way" to do a side hop, everyone should just do them to the side that they're most comfortable with.Yes, you are right. Now I remember Ryan Leech say in his Mastering the Art of Trials video that it's easier to sidehop in the direction of the back foot, but he recommends learning both ways.I guess it's back to the "wrong side" for me now Edited November 4, 2008 by spaceman
CC12345678910
ur not on ur own mate. As I can do world record breaking height on about 15 inches I could do with some help.BTW I sidehop the correct way.
Tom_
Practice, watch videos, and make some sort of effort at typing in english. All three will help your sidehops.
spartan
When i started i was really crappy at sides. Eventually after breaking my 3rd hanger i just gave up and didnt work on them at all. Now ive come back a year or so later and their coming alot more naturally.I like to concentrate on landing your front wheel first but also really work on jumping alot. Really bend your legs when you go to take off and get your body as over the wall as you can. Just because your tires are on the wall dont mean youve made it but if your body is all the way up there then u can at least 1 your way through. Also, work on jumping alot first and try to get as little tuck as possible. There are some fags who will do like a 3 foot hop but tuck all the way, unless your really really weak you shouldnt have to. I think the idea is to tuck as little as possible and to jump as much as you can.Once you get better start working on your other side (forward or back foot side) and try going straight to 2 wheels then straight to rear. Landing sidehops on the rear is really hard but its alot of fun and looks just so sexy haha.Hope this helps,Ian
cam217
when i started side hopping i was the same but the technique i was using was trying to sidehop to 2 wheels, but now i have found that if you go slightly diagonaly then jump up to your front wheel you can carry your rear wheel higher. Also leaning into the sidehop helps a bit aswell cam.
D A N N Y
I'm having the same problem i can side hop But i side hop the wrong way, And to be honest i don't really see the advantages of side hopping the right way i feel much more comfortable side hopping the wrong way, Try to go to front wheel it is supposed to be easier i cant side hop to front i just end up going over the bars i can do either to back or to both.
