Frame Without Mech Hanger?

Hey all,

probably a stupid question, but is there any harm in running a gu le frame without mech hanger? I have a 74kingz tensioner and on my old frame I cut down the hanger so it was still on the frame, but I have just bought a frame off here without a hanger, any point in buying a hanger just to cut it down?

Ta!

The frame has arrived and is sitting waiting to be put together in my room, so as I am the impatient f**k that I am, I recon I'll just get a hanger off tarty!

Cheers for the advice guys, appreciate it!!

The frame is designed to be used with a hanger whether you run a mech or not. Failing to do so will void the warranty if something happens to the dropout.

edit:

More practical advice: riding without a hanger may have negative consequences but only after many weeks of use. It's not like you're going to break the dropout on the first ride. So order a hanger and put it on when it arrives, but in the mean time I think you're safe riding the frame as it is.

The only problem you might encounter is that the hub axle will stick out of the frame making it impossible to screw down. If you're running a hub like a HD King which uses bolts to support the hub in the dropouts, you'll be fine.

When I snapped the hanger on my old zoo boa I tried to run without it (running perfect tension singlespeed so no tensioner) and found the rear wheel wouldnt tighten up because the QR axle end protruded past the aluminium and the QR cap tightened down on the axle not the dropout. Running a 74k type tensioner on my bike and have since chopped the mech hanger :)

I'm running a ck hd so getting the wheel tight on the dropout wouldn't be an issue. Neither would warrenty, as the frames second hand anyway. After hearing everyone opinions I ended up just geting a hanger. For the sake of a £7 part it seems pointless not, plus the frames not quite ready to be built up yet; I still need to find myself a hope headset as my old frames integrated one won't fit.

Thanks for the advice all!
