A Line In The Sand

I only ever come on T-F now to look at Chit-chat, the rest is just same old really, new bikes and parts all seem the same, getting boring now...

I naturally come on here first, then sit and read countless, pointless arguements and just leave. Miniforum is much better, people actually have a decent sense of humour, get along, and it generally has a better atmosphere.

So yeah, quit the bitchin'!

Everyone seems to be in agreeance on here but lets wait and see until the next thing to argue about comes up. It's very easy to say "oh yeah, were all going to be good" then the next Danny Kearns situation happens. A quite easy way of dealing with it, for me, would be a zero tolerance on causing arguements (obviously this depends on your disgression). When things get overly personal on here, thats when warns/bans need to be handed out.

As for all these people of late defending Fatty. If he doesnt want people commenting on his personal stuff, don't bring it out into the pubic arena as far as im concerned. Most of the Fatty bashing, or what ive seen of it, has been pretty fair. Fair enough naivety isn't something that should be punished, however it is best to learn quick and lets face it, male to male conversation in real life would be distinctly similar. (Nothing personal Fatty, you're alright-ish :P)

Guess again.

Really? I absolutely didn't see that one coming. Can't decide whether I think it's a good or a bad thing, but kudos for making your point (Y)

I definitely agree with getting things back to how they used to be - but back then there was a lot of banter too, it's just that people knew how to take it with a pinch of salt. So to be honest I would be "punishing" the other side of the problem - the people who just can't understand the difference between a personal dig and a bit of internet forum banter. I would say that 99.9% of the arguments on here start from this sort of situation where someone will give a tongue in cheek comment and it's blown completely out of proportion.

And, as has already been mentioned, most of this banter would happen between mates in a pub too and it wouldn't get all out of hand with people being sent out of the pub for an hour while they learn to behave. People just need to learn not to take everything so seriously, especially in chit chat.

I know that my way of doing it is 100x more difficult to enforce than the way that's been chosen, and I don't disagree. I just think it's a shame that it's had to get to a point where certain people need to be treated like the kids they're acting like.

It might be a good idea to chuck more people back into NMC

Problem is, NMC has gotten so shit that there's no decent scope to proving you've learnt your lesson, you'll just get sick of 'for sail, t berd, mint conish mayte' and piss off to another forum because once you're in NMC it's all over.

As for all these people of late defending Fatty. If he doesnt want people commenting on his personal stuff, don't bring it out into the pubic arena as far as im concerned.

But most of the time, as it's me, people will think 'hahaha lolz look fatty, lets make a mountain out of a nipple and kick all sorts of shit up and make it sound 1000x worse than he said it. and lets take the worst possible face value of it LMAO!!!!!!!11'

I don't think this forum can change from warnings and bans, not all that soon anyway, because on forums, the main, hilarious banter is from taking it a bit further than you would in real life, because you can, mainly anyway.

It's just gotta calm down over a few months, or it's like expecting a public school lout to go into a private school and be the best behaved kid ever because they will spank you the f**k up if you put a foot out of line.

Yeah but in a pub you can see who is mates with who, on here it sometimes looks like random attacks - and even if it is a "joke between mates" that should be kept to MSN or something really :)

Ah well whatever lol

Totally see where you're coming from - and obviously conscious that this shouldn't escalate especially in here - but take it a step further. I'll use Glen just because he's the obvious choice:

Glens sitting therein the pub with his mates, having a bit of a giggle about getting someone pregnant with his fingers. Mr X overhears and can't help but say - lightheartedly of course - that he thinks Glen is clearly a bit of a n00b at the sex lark. In that situation, I reckon most would probably still laugh and it's still unlikely that it would escalate into a full blown row over something so silly. It certainly wouldn't end up with Mr X being barred from the pub.

I don't like this 'don't even think about contesting it' thing. For one, the moderators are human, so they make mistakes. If they get it wrong, and interpret the rules wrong, why should that not be contested? A moderators job is to enforce the rules, and if they are seen to be wrong about the rules then that should be contested.

The most immature thing about this forum is the way the moderators, especially karlsoneverret in this thread, consider themselves above the rules, by saying that their interpretation of the rules cannot be contested and is final. It sucks.

Karlson, you want the rules to be followed more? That needs respect for the rules. YOU are not the rules. You just interpret and enforce them. So you can be wrong. To promote respect for the authority around here means not you saying 'don't contest my decision'. That's all wrong.

Edit to add: I've been here from the start, so I know what it's like to have been a member here all this time. The way the mods are treating members is IMHO a contributory factor to the problem you describe!

I personally feel that this place has become very rigid and as a consequence, quite dry. It actually reminds me of section7 and the reasons I stopped using that forum. A lot of people sitting on their higher ground, getting "annoyed" at the "shortcomings" of others, be that "pointless posts", "bed spelling" or whatever. Continual pouncing on others for not being perfect is boring (for me anyway) and it leads to the removal of a lot of the humour that previously went with pointlessness - is there any point to humour? And I especially have to agree with extreme biker about not being able to contest a ban. As somebody who clearly has an interest in politics, Rich I will suggest that you wouldn't accept the government saying that they should be able to ban you from various activities without your being able to contest such a thing? Sounds quite draconian to me. But then perhaps I'm being a bit over the top with that analogy - this is only a forum, right?

No doubt my opinion will be an unpopular one but nevermind (standard procedure) >_<

You're right! People are banning, closing and warning people so much, citing minor yet incontestable breaches. It seems like the forum's here for the rules now, instead of the rules being here for the good of the forum.

Karlson, you're inflamatory, elitist topic sucks, get rid of it, get out of your own arse, and stop being part of the problem!

I see some warn coming your way...

GENERAL RULES

1. Flaming Minimum Penalty - 1 Warning Point

While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts.

Clever to direct that _at_ a moderator... Although I completely see where you're coming from with the contesting decisions thing. Having been on the end of Rich's banhammer before though, I can see he's generally fair.
