mad max
I have just got my Heatsink yellows through the post from the advice from pad reviews, and about to grind my rim.I have ground other rims in the past, but they was no where near as expensive as this back wheel. i don't want to fook it up I know what to do but is there any specific advice you could give me related to theses rims and pads for optimum performance.I will then be out for a few hours to test the difference from tar.Sorry to rush but i will be doing it about 1.00pm today, wish me luck.Thanks. eskimo
Did you buy one of them £50 SL rims? I got myself one of them, quality pretty turd to be fair, good old Echo. Use a brand new cutting disc and just try and get a clean even sharp light grind. You should be able to get a nice grind without killing the rim to hard, even with the anodise. Just finished it now. Set my Maggie up spot on with Penny's and just tested it in the house, sounds fooking great. Off out now for a few hours to bed it in. I will give some results later.I still get a bit nervous grinding rims.
cai
I personally much prefur to have smooth rim set ups, that way the rim lasts a hell of a longer and aslong as your setup is decent it'll work just as good (i mean smooth rim specific pads).Like my Atomz pads on a smooth try-all rim was outstanding! So much better than my CRM's on a light/medium grind
Ali C
not so good in a wet muddy comp/natural ride though
mad max
Holy Sh*t these have to be the loudest pads ever. When i got to my riding spot i new there was something wrong because when i put power down on a pedal stroke (any side) the pads were touching the rim.I did a little fine tuning and fook me, i thought my rear brake was going to rip out of my frame. It has made me realize that i am dragging the brake when i don't need to.I just thought about touching my lever and it screamed like a fooking crack whore on a de-tox. I have learned more today than i have in weeks.I cant believe i went back to tar. Thanks for the replies.

eskimo
Good to hear. But your going to have to keep re-grinding it every few weeks for the same performance. That's why grinds suck. Not against them just that's the honest downfall of them.

I have been running good old Maggie's basic blacks with tar because i didn't want to grind my rim, new bike and all. But it is time to get all natural and it hasn't been sunbathing weather all year in my part of town.
eskimo
Maybe look into some different pads too. Or try not to drag your brake. Also discs save all that hassle, but bring in other hassle
