Ross McArthur
Ok, its time to try a Vee.Ive managed to pick up a wee deal on a xtr v brake set up but need an inner and outer cable. im wondering whats the best to go for. Is a standard set out of Halfords going to be enough? If there have been any threads on this before please point me in the right direction. ta. forteh
If you cant get a linear slik or similar then an oversized gear outer and a normal brake cable works
CurtisRider
Odyssey linear slicks are my choice, pretty much any linear bmx cable will do, all generic stuff! Some people rate clarks cables but i found them to be a bit rough after a while. Nokons are ok, i am running one atm, but they are pricey and not justified over the price of a regular linear cable. ben_travis
linear slicks are among the worst ideas for a trials bike IN MY OPINION.the brake feels pish, the cable does not pull through smoothly enough for my liking. I can guarantee you 100% that i will be in the minority here but i recommend a standard shimano cable and outer set.You cannot go wrong and if it breaks then its cheap to replace. The only benefit of a linear slick is that if you do bar spins or danny mac type moves (which i know you do cos you lurve him) then the linear slick allows the brake to continue working after you have span the bars round.Other than this, a standard shimano cable and outer feels 100x better / smoother, and i will always stick to this comment. grant_hundley
i use tesco cable just oil it all up before i put it on... works perfectly, pretty smooth. brake feels awesome
Damon W
BENS RIGHTlinear slicks are highly uncool, unless u do spins and all that jazz, then , ovcourse, there awsum
forteh
Im currently using a shimano M-system front cable, when I had the BB7 on the back I used the gear cable (jagwire specifically) the theory being that gear cables dont compress lengthwise so will give less sponge - handy tip from aliC
Sponge
Jagwires any good? I'm talking about the carbon-fibre looking coated ones. Specifically on BB7s?
CurtisRider
Im not sure how you are getting such poor results with a linear cable guys, all of mine have been silly light, feels like im running something lighter than a water bleed to put it in comparison. The brake feel is noticeably stiffer too i find, just seems rather odd yuu have poor results? I have been running them for about 5 years now on various bikes with no troubles! Tom Booth
i'm running Stolen slick cables front and back and there awesome. Feels reaaallly nice!
Luke Rainbird
I'd put a vote in for a linear job (only the outer really, cheapo inners run fine)Just be sure to lube it up as best you can during installation - spray down the outer and grease the innerOther than that, minimum spring tension and away we go
N.Wood
I'm rolling on a Linear outer and shitty inner up front on me BB7 and it works really well. Also had good results with an XTR outer.
eskimo
I recently made a topic about inners but noone seemed to reply with any information to which inners were strongest. Not that i've had a problem with Linears anyway. But just to make sure, Odyssey Linear are the best. Not Slick and not a different brand. Some are alright, but others are reported to be not as great. And slicks are just turd. £6 w/ free postage for an Odyssey Linear from Pijin.
basher
Odessy linear slick is my choice of weapon. I got mine free when i got a part off bigman, and even then was stiffer than a xtr cable and as smooth if not smoother. Ive never felt they are ruff and im still using the same cable 6months on. NVWOCI WVS
I'm a part-time bmxer, and dual bb7 user, and in my experience, the best brake cable in the world, ever sre the animal bikes linear slic kevlar cables. Teflon coated, pre-stretched inners and an amazing, woven kevlar outer. Cost a bit, but well worth it. Make your brake feel really smooth and much more solid than the oyssey linear slic, as this has issues with the outer casing compressing slightyl.Highly recomended (if you can still get hold of them) If not, I'll have one long enough for a rear disc for sale on the 1st of November.Edit: FAO Eskimo. I find thre Jagwire inners to be really good, last ages with aparently no stretch but they tend to fray quite easily compared to some. I've also used the BBB pre-lubricated inners and they're really good. They alway cut down really neatly without fraying too which is a bonus.
