Clothing Shops

Has anybody noticed how tanned and 'buff' you look in the mirrors of your favorite clothing shops?

Talking with a friend of mine ages ago he was talking about how in girls clothing stores the mirrors are 'bent' to make you look thinner, and lights are used to make you look more tanned.

Now i love the lights used in shops makes everything look clean, makes you look better and then in essence makes you feel better. I want to try and find some of the products shops use to do this but google isn't helping.

Any help appreciated XX

My stepdads a shop fitting project manager for Powells and is currently working on Oasis, and has JUST finished the nation wide New Look revamp.

I just phoned him up and asked him and he says thats a load of bollocks.

And to add to that, i've got the plans for the new look in basingstoke in a box in my utility room.

Including plans for mirrors - Give me 2 seconds and I will go and photo the designs.

Having inspected the plans for fitting room A through to F for the women's section of "New Look" Basingstoke I can safely say when the mirrors were designed and ordered there are NO filters or curves to the mirrors. Please note the red "Issued for construction" stamp in the bottom left.....

ahh, thanks for the info my friend I was so sure they did have some kind of filter or curve because of how my look varied from womans newlook and the mens section at CULT.

Thankyou though.

Thats ok !

I understand I might have seemed like a cock then too, I didn't mean to. I was just in a slightly blunt mood !

don't know about the bigger clothing companys but some of the smaller ones do. I'm a sparky so i'm often in shops working on lights etc. we use special 'warming' bulbs in some of the shops/mainly in changing rooms. I wouldn't know about mirrors but i'm sure if it's legal then it'll be done in some shops.

I understand exactly what you mean.

I did find an ebook ages ago on marketing/shop techniques, just based around things like the layout of a shop and how it can obviously affect sales.

An obvious one to think of is one that my old science teacher told me of, and that is if you go to a fast food place like McDonalds, they have hard upright seating, and bright spot lights for the lighting, just as a technique to get eating customers out soon, and new customers in.

Contrastingly you have nice restaurants/pubs, in which they use low level lighting, comfortable seating, etc as a method of getting you to stay as long as possible.

Okay its not exactly a clothing shop but its the same technique so I thought I'd bring it up, it is clever subtle stuff to think about.
