Do real weight lifting, Clean & Jerk and snatch <- your gonna have to get someone to teach you these though. and inbetween that do as many front squats as you cann. Oh and no cheating, if you don't have good form you may aswell be at home wanking.

yeah olympic lifting is good for explosiveness

watch this and you will believe http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=UoCZne0g-e8

Im trying to be on the Dave Marshall regime of turning into a triangle by eating chocolate bars, crisps, high in fat sandwiches, and a shed load of carbs at tea time.

The only thing I fail to do is not drink alcohol - must be why Im podgey and Dave is inhuman.

Ride - and then ride more. The gym is for people who actually want to win (or maybe loose weight). Why waste time doing boring weights when you could be out riding :)

Because most of the time my bike is broke and I need to keep improving. If I don't train, I don't improve. Especially if I only get to ride maybe once or twice a week. But your not really human anyway, Rowan. The stuff you do blows me away. And now that I know you don't train for it. It's even crazier.

I do weight training, but not to improve my riding, if you want to get better at trials, you have to ride as often as you can.

Theres so much more to trials than stregnth, it's all about balance, coordination and fitness. Try setting yourself long sections that knacker you out by the end, then ride them over and over again.

haha

gym is awesome, i hates it at first, but now i love it

also you can cut the chances of "overtraining" by having glutamine, its in most protein shakes, and is available on its own from holland and barratt, jus helps recovery. i did a SOLID week of chest workouts back to back, and didnt ache too bad, and gained alot of strength

but for trials ide say personally for the the most used muscles are:

lats

shoulders

glutes

triceps

qauds

calves

but it can differ, depends on youre style really

i find the simple 5/6 sets of 10 startin with a lighter weightm building up the weight each set works best

jus put the muscles i named upthere^^ in youpube, then itl bring up exercises for it :) or ask at youre gym

also if youre a loonatic, do cardio, i personaly, cant b arsed, id rather f**k a dog in the arse (que someone maonin blink 182)

Thanks Damon, good to have your advice. I'm already getting a little bigger on some things. Haven't rode yet as my rear brake is wank right now, but I have went outside in my garden and started gapping stuff and jumping straight up onto things with no problem. ( on my feet that is) :giggle: Just can't wait for my blood to get here so I can start riding again.

Went riding on a BMX today as some of you suggested. Really good idea. If it wasn't for my tire that kept coming off the rim, I would have rode longer.

Quite like my BMX, not really setup like most people's. I'm running Shimano V's front and rear, and a White Industries trials freewheel on the rear. So I can still do some trialsy stuff when I riding around town and hitting some stuff.

Damon how often do you ride and go to gym per week?

currently im doing 4 days per week in gym and 3 days riding. i dont ride on the day when i train legs and i train upper body a few hours after riding

i go to the gym 5 times a week

ride once a week

i love riding, but the spots are miles away from me, so i jus ride saturdays, recover from saturday night on sundays, but if i dont go out saturday nights i ride aswell on the sunday

i try to do leg work at the begginning of the week, then im fully recovered in time for weekend riding :)

and youre doing gym through the whole year?

every part of my body has been improving except quads, my vertical and squat are the only things which havent improved so im going to try training quads only once a week and see what happens

btw have you ever measured your vertical? i guess its around 90cm/35inch?

Yeah, great idea. I did a great workout on my legs and a little upper body today. Legs are a little sore. We'll see how it goes. Gonna try to do the same workout tommorow. Just maybe swap up the order a bit.

During my 2 year break from trials i was climbing atleast twice a week, when i finally got back into trials alongside climbing i didnt feel that bad, i still had alot of power that i thought i would have lost having not riden any bike for two years. But to my suprise it was all there, the dreaded arm pump hardly happens now, even when on natty. I think climbing is a great cross training aid as it is an all body work out and is purely bodywieght. Which means you get good power to wieght ratio, aswell as good stamina (Y)
