Fishy
Most people will say Avid bb7, but the best brake I ever had was a magura julie, it was powerful, held well, and had modulation. What more could you want from a front brake?
Tomm
Yeah, I recently used a Julie and it was very nice. But I don't know whether they're all like that, so I'd just suggest sticking with the BB7. They're just brilliant, and cheap too.
grant_hundley
id go with the maggie, but thats cus i like rim brakes.. juicys offer good power and have good modulation. bb7's have huge adapters that give a lot of leverage on the fork legs which cause your forks to crack but are really powerful and maggies are loud and with that setup will be really bitey and will probably hold best
Tomm
bb7's have huge adaptersDo they have bigger adapters than any other disc brakes? No, of course not.

Ben John-Hynes
Magura, it'll be loud, but it'll stop you like a bitch when used with the right pads!

Alex Dark
all those brakes will be awesome if they're set-up well....if you want modulation + power = bb7straight power= koxx browns + maggie

petar@sbcycles
Thought bout a front vee but ill vote for a bb7...At first sorry about my english hope you can understand me..Now i`m with vee but use tar... this is shitty for front brake.. haven`t here choice of good vee pads... I have front magura now with koxx brown and now i`m waiting my new frame and new fork, probably zoo fork.... and can`t decide what to be for 4 bolts or disk...I`m for rim brakes at all and like vees too but how i said- haven`t any choice of pads for it.... Now i`m only worried for the 4 bolt mounts... Most people say that they cracked them, but they used front magura with tar... no one ride with grind. Can someone, who ride really often and use front magura with grind, say on how times you make new grind and do you crack forks?
Tomm
yeah they do.. compare hopes to bb7'sHope: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15622Avid: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13721Stop posting shit. The only reason Avid adapters would be bigger would be if you were using a bigger disc. I trust you wouldn't be stupid enough to compare one for a small rotor on a Hope to a big Avid one?EDIT: Wait, do you mean caliper? Even so I don't really know what difference that would make to snapping your forks. The only reason people break forks with BB7s is because they're so grabby and powerful that you can do stupid things (E.g. drop-gaps to front wheel) with them causing your forks lots of stress.
