JT!
Come on Mark, you're smarter than that.He is, he knows that BMX riders don't hit their head so they don't need to wear helmets. But trials riders do.
Jaffacakes
Bmx'ers still hit there heads, just not as much. Saying that, I only wear mine on my BMX when im forced to.
RobinJI
Awesome to hear he's getting better. But God damn American news is dumbed down! "He was trying a jump like this one, and he fell on his face." Doesn't sound that stupid, but the way she said it just sounded stupid.BMXer's do hit there heads. Lots, look at pro MTB riders who are doing similar stuff to BMXers, they all wear helmets, its just BMX culture stopping them, there's no logical reason not to.' Simpson
Go f**k yourself.I concour, like you said yourself Inur, he may have a wife kids... and he's nearly died... so of least have some f**king respect for a fellow rider, wether he happened to be wearing a helmet or not.... David20
Was feeling sympathetic about this until he said that now he'll wear his helmet. What an idiot.Shut the f**k up, you utter bellend.Back on topic: Really happy to see he's so recovered so well and so quickly. Looking forward to seeing him back on his bike . Tom_
Seriously, your all f**king bell ends. Not wearing a helmet to do LARGE stuff is stupid, wether its on a BMX or not. Yes its harsh what happened and I am sympathetic However he wasnt wearing a helmet because hes too cool for that, as with most BMXers and he got f**ked up theres no two ways about it.His life his head etc. just IMO its pretty retarded and the people backing no helmets are alse pretty retarded when its clear helmets stop shit like this happening. JonMack
I dont think this is a matter of "too cool" or not, I think it's just a case of he wasn't wearing a helmet and he had an unfortunate accident. Now can we just all be happy that he's made a fast recovery?
Mark W
All I'm going to say is that I stand by my previous comment, and can't really be bothered to elaborate on why it makes you a complete c**t if you're willing to be unsympathetic to someone and their relatives simply to stand on some f**king shitty moral high-ground. Dan6061
I never really wear my helmet when I'm out riding, unless I try something new/big, that i'm not sure that i'll make.Although I don't really go big anymore, just ponce about doing small, techy stuff. I know I can fall off and hit my head etc, but it's my choice. I'm confident that I won't fall off, and if I do, helmet or not, I rarely hit my head. Call me stupid, I couldn't really care...Anyway, glad to hear that he's recovered so well! Hope he gets back to his usual self soon...
Tomm
What Mark said. If you're gonna whine at people for not wearing helmets, do it when they leave the house for a ride without taking a lid. Don't just sit back on your computer chair and say 'I told you so' after something like this has happened. Have some sympathy for a guy who's come through something horrible. I'm sure he wishes he was wearing a helmet now, he doesn't need a whole host of teenage kids on computers to tell him...
Mark W
Have some sympathy for a guy who's come through something horrible. It's not even like he's actually come through it yet, there's still a long way for him to go. He's amazed the doctors with how quickly he's got to this stage, but if you watch that video you can see there's still a long way for him to go to get better. He can only just about use his right side, and still struggles with speech a lot.
Trials Punk
Can't we all just get along and make love with each other?.............Yes.I'm glad he's up and about, looks like he's got a long way to go yet, to get to his full strength. He looked quite weak in that video. Can't wait to see him rip it up.Off topic slrightly, his wife looks very much alike him. Too much alike....... Robwalker
Let this be a lesson to us all, and leave it at that. I have ALOT of respect for Mike, and this hopefully will raise awareness about safety within the cycling industry. Hope to see him back on a bike soon! MadManMike
I'm with the whole "condolences but wtf would you not wear a helmet" thing.Of course I wish him a good recovery, but if you're doing big stuff putting a helmet on should be as instinctive as putting on shoes. Pashley26
Riding without a helmet isn't a like driving a car without a seatbelt on, it's not a "if I ride slowly i'll be fine" type of thing. It's literally a time bomb, your guaranteed to fall off at some point. How big you go does have a bearing on when your going to fall off, but it could happen at anytime no matter how good you are.Obviously I hope he makes a full recovery, but he should have been wearing a helmet. Now can we end this "he's a cock, no you are" argument, this is a thread for well wishers, not douches. TheCircus
Come on Mark, you're smarter than that. He's got a kid and a wife and he probably provides for his family, so how utterly stupid is it to pull off dangerous stunts without any safety gear? It took him a near death experience to realize that? If he was killed what would you say, fine he's dead but at least he wasn't hot in his head when riding. Or whatever the reason is that these people don't wear helmets for. Anyone who does something where even the smallest mistake can result in serious injury or death and doesn't wear any safety gear is an idiot. It's their choice, but they're still idiots.I take this, and raise you THIS.Finally ordered a breathalyser = more drinking at parties when I'm driving back home. Mark W
Presumably Mr. Circus is making the point that whilst Mike Aitken may have been putting his own health at risk, he's not putting other peoples lives at risk?
Greetings
This is going so off topic... The reason for that purchase was to know when i'm sober and therefore to be able to return home. It's pretty obvious that I didn't buy it to drive home intoxicated? So at which point is somebody's life at risk? Edited November 16, 2008 by Inur

It's pretty obvious that I didn't buy it to drive home intoxicated? So at which point is somebody's life at risk?No it's to know when your LEGALLY sober enough to drive, not when you're sober. Aitkin wasn't doing anything illegal not wearing a helmet, neither are you by driving only slightly pissed, but you're both slightly stupid. I never wear a helmet unless forced to (supervised parks an stuff) so all I can say is i was overjoyed when i heard this and wish him a speedy recovery as he's a legend
MadManMike
True, I also don't wear a helmet when a fly about on my DMR, but I wouldn't expect any sympathy - if I ever crash it WILL be bad, but it'll be my own fault if I smash my head!
