Ben John-Hynes
NO idea about the free wheel. But maybe there's something on the rotor/pads that needs removing, just run some petrol/lighter fluid around the rotor. Or it may be a problem with the bleed. Z o o !!
Hm, no ideas to what is the exat problem dave.Give the freewheel some more time i guess. when i had my profile new it skipped for a few days.Disc: try boiling up a kettle of water and poor it onto the disc and into the caliper on the pads and the ride around dragging the front brake, do that a couple of times and see if it helps Edited October 3, 2008 by Z o o !! Greetings
Nasty squeak usually means the disc is contaminated.Freewheel - it's new, needs time to bed in. If it's still like that after say 20 hours of riding, consider contacting the shop you bought it at.

SkiLLz
tried it, i was thinking maybe wrap the disk in loads of tissue and burn it? maybe this will take the crap off it
Muel
Get some nice sloppy mud, smear it all over the rotor and go down a hill and get it nice and hot, then rinse it off and go and get it hot to dry it out. It's the way I've been doing it for 4 years, never failed yet. It works best if the mud is a bit gritty, it scrubs the rotors and the pads clean, then when you rinse it off it takes the crap with it. CurtisRider
With my try all it skipped really badly all the time initially, a quick spray of wd40 into the freewheel to thin down the grease a bit solved it Its a bloody good freewheel, i have no complaints about it.Also agree with the mud thing, seemed to work for my brake! just dont use contaminated mud
Ash-Kennard
ben - xtp 2 shorty modive never tried the mud method, but ive heard about the awesome results, so its definately worth the try matey

Z o o !!
my disc has been shit lately so just been outside and done the mud theory, Going to leave to drie for a while. I will tell you how it works. If it happens to fail i had a thought, would those mud facial packs work ? the girly things that go on your face and harden ?
Muel
Try it, but I wouldn't go for it. Real mud is cheaper and I doubt that the mud you put on you face is very gritty. You could also try burning the pads out with a blow torch, but be careful as this can damage the pads. Rob Brodie
muc-off disk brake cleaner dave say no moreas for the freewheel maybe it just needs to be ran in?try flying to the bottom of that hill and having a play about of that skate park for a while. i done silmilar with my tensile and it seemed to do the trick ride soon bud..rob..EDIT: perhaps try a little bit of wd40 in the freewheel? not much though dave Edited October 5, 2008 by Rob Brodie
psycholist
If your freewheel skips, something is mechanically wrong with it. Open it and make sure there's no thick grease in it and that the pawls move and engage correctly. The idea that a freewheel should 'break in' is ridiculous. If it skips then you're probably damaging the pawls and ratchet ring by using it anyway, so even if the grease clears out and it engages correctly after a while it may have been damaged because you ran it while it wasn't engaging properly. As for the brake - if it squeaks (Apart from a very high pitched - think bat noise - squeak as it is dragged) then the disk is almost certainly contaminated. I have a Luise I bought brand new a few weeks ago and it took about 5 minutes of pedaling with the brake on (And rubbing a bit of mud into it with a squirt of water) to get it to pretty much full power and after an hour or so of trials it was perfect. Magura say if oil gets on the pads they're toast, so you may never get it to work with the original pads. Use IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) to clean the disk - It's available at a lot of pharmacy's, leaves no residue and will mess you up very badly if you drink it, but isn't desperately toxic apart from that...
