Dual Disc Or Rear Maggy ?

I always liked rear discs, the silent operation and what felt like amazing hold.

However, no noise is really bad when you are uncertain if your brake is working or not, whereas with a maggie, you can tell if your brake isn't quite right by change in volume or pitch of the noise made.

Discs; No tar, no grinds, coloured rim sidewalls, no noise, all weather/conditions.

Magura; No rotors, different performing pads, tar for extra stick, audible noise.

Personally, I'd rather use dual disc in competition use, Magura just feels right on street.

Magura would get my vote, cheaper, easier to set-up/maintain, and can be tweaked to make braking more modulant or holding.

Why would you want more bite than a disc?

So that when you tap, and land on the edge of a wall you actually keep it rather than slipping off perhaps? :-

Lol Muel, I already feel so guilty because you are religiously attached to rear disks...

Maggys are where its at though.

Shut up you bellend.

Thats bollocks too.

A decent grind with a decent pair of pads e.g ; heatsink coust, reds, yellows, plazzies ect, Will Always have a sharper bite than a disc.

ha, you on your period connor :P you seem so angry recently :S

anywho.

discs stop the hub rather than maggies/vee which stop the rim..

on a mod you wont notice much flex, but on a stock there is much greater stress on the wheel, you can flex the wheel forwards and backwards with a disc because of flex.. with a maggie it feels a lot more solid and there wont be any flex.

with discs, you've also got the problem with bending discs, but with maggies a bent rim will rub your pads...

quiet brakes dont make you smoother, they just can make you sound smoother. as there isnt a huuuge screach every time you brake.

but if your a basher and have a disc on't back, you will still sound harsh.

its all preference really. i prefer my maggie, but i do love riding bikes with a rear disc (especially jon macks). if you ride smooth there is barely any noise and is lovely.

also, loud brakes will get you noticed more. if you're riding on privat property making a lot of noise then you'll probably be more likely to get kicked off. if you have discs, you wont make a lot of noise and will probably be more respected.

thought about a vee? generally quieter than maggies and still stop the rim rather than the hub. and have amazing hold.

think this might have been the most helpfull i've ever been :S
