Gandalf the Yellow
right it's been 2 days and it's pissing me off. moved from home to uni the other day and obviously had to unplug everything and plug it back in.if anyone knows more about this then please give me advice as that why this is happeningNORMALLY - the set does need a 15 min warm up otherwise all 5 surround will make strange noises. but after warm up it sounds great..since the move i've had exact same set up, nothing wrong with power supply, but it's been buzzing/screaming at me every time i switch it on and turn it up, even after i let it on standby for hours, then switch on the amp for a 15 min usual warm up. now i've disconnected it from the mains and see if it helps.anyone tell me what else i should be doing to stop the noise/buzzing?cheerssteve
MadManMike
What's plugged into it? If anything, unplug any devices - DVD, TV, MP3... See what happens. If it still makes the sound, there's definitely something wrong with the power supply somehow - earthing issue or something?Try it with nothing plugged in first and see what happens. Gandalf the Yellow
tried it with nothing plugged in. just the speakers themselves.IF it is something to do with the earth, what can i do to stop it?steve
MadManMike
So with the speakers / amp connected to nothing it still made the buzzing sound?Silly question - is the volume right up? (Am I right in saying it's one of those 5.1 kits with the amp built into the sub, with volume on the back?)If so, turn it right down and see if it still does it...If it does still do it, then you've got some kind of interference / earth problem - which to be honest is beyond me. If it's still in warranty phone the company and ask them what's up. If not, search Google for something like earthing 5.1 kit or something
Gandalf the Yellow
no so it's got no input in the amp at the moment.. still buzzes.volume is not 'on' at the moment but when i turn it up it'll buzz, its an external amp so not built in to the sub..but if there's no volume then they're quiet as fook. but it also means there's no music...won't be in warranty the set is about 5+ year old lol..so what else can i do? it doesn't sound like an earthing issuesteve
MadManMike
Is it a constant buzz or a crackle when you turn the volume knob?Sometimes dust gets into the volume knob and makes the connection crap, if it's just a bit crackly try taking the case off and blowing the dust...Other than that, I'm stumped mate
Gandalf the Yellow
constant buzz...the noise does change in sound which i found strange, like change in pitches etc...i can't afford to fork out money for new speakers steve
MadManMike
It's definitely some kind of interference, sounds like a duff power supply - without actually looking and hearing I can't say for sure, but it's definitely gotta be a power supply issue.
