I was just thinking then would a function on the forum where you can click weather a post from someone is positive or negative be useful? Just like on you tube. That way people who are always posting negative and useless stuff might stand out a bit more. Also people who are constantly posting things that are positive could be rewarded. I think if it was implimented then it should really only be for SM's and upwards otherwise you'd get forum members ganging up on people they don't like etc. I don't know it was just a thought I had.

The (Y)/ (N) idea is a good one.

We've got that sort of system on an Audi forum I moderate on. Where you can be "thanked" or "Burned" for making a post, it seems to work very well because it's easy to do. Just a click.

Lets you know what people think of you without being insulting too (Y)

Edit - The thumbs down smiley's broken. :(

If it was going to happen it'd have to be open for everyone to use.

I guess you could make it so it's 1 Thank/Burn per person per day.

So you can only thank/burn somebody once per day (but still do it to other people, just not the same person)

If anybody abuses the system.

Ban them :)

Yea but one persons abuse, is another persons just comment. not wanting to use examples here. but Ben Cox's rant to someone the other day, when someone compared him to the people that killed DeeJ, was totally over the top in my eyes, totally uncalled for, a bunch of swearing, insults etc. and its not even the heat of the moment thing(well maybe, but not the initial, rip his head off heat of the moment), as he stuck it in capitals, then switched it to lower case to sign his name. but then not really knowing DeeJ,maybe id say that was over the top, but then to Ben, maybe it wasnt.

Another example, the Danny and Hannah thing in the happy thread, 3 pages of p*ss taking. who do you burn, the guy that first took the mick, as a bit of a friendly bit of fun, the next guy who expanded on it with a funny comment, or the 84.6 losers who joined in with "ROFLCOPTER internet paedo" comments and took it totally over the top. or do you burn "Dannah"(just like Bennifer, only slightly poorer and with added Deng) for putting something personal like that on the internet, and then getting the hump when people take the mick.

what do you thank or +rep them for? adding something to the forum, in which case, adding what?? go to the girl trouble thread, do you + rep the guy who gave the helpful advice. as hes helped someone out(you certainly couldnt burn them for it(although what constitutes good advice is a matter of opinion)) or do you +rep the guy who makes the hilarious comment, that has you laughing in stitches, as lets be honest, hes made your day that little bit better, adding some comic value to the forum, and made light of what is a very serious matter. But then the person who posted their problem, could view it the same as you, and find it very funny, or could be sat in the corner, almost in tears, because someones just ripped into him, and no one takes his problems serious.

I could burn Boswells topics, or some of the things Sonny Clarke said about wanting to ban all the "in-crowd", as to me they where pretty pointless/uncalled for, but then theres problem 4000 mod riding adolescent teens, who agree with him.

for the above reasons, im going to "burn" you for your idea (unless you exclude it from all parts of the forum, apart from trials chat, as thats generally the only place you could "thank" or "burn" someone for good or bad advice). And as most of the problems in here, relate to bitching in chit chat, it wont solve anything.

Thing is though it'll all average out, TheCircus for example (used in nearly every example) will get (Y) and (N) in equal numbers because he's like Marmite. You'd just (Y) people if you liked their post and (N) if you didn't. There's no right and wrong way to do it, it's just down to personal preference, and what you like and don't like as a reader.

I guess your right.

I'm forgetting the Audi Forum I moderate on is full of 20+ year old mature men, not squabbling girls.

:(

Lukes post - Haha, "I like the concept. But I don't like you, and for that reason alone. I'm out."

Personally i think warns just f**k people off. I know when i warned by Rich for calling someone f**king stupid for making a topic about what dates to put on fake ID's it really pissed me off. And probably made me more agressive on my return.

EEE Sorry :-

Which is essentially why there's never going to be this all-conquering, omnipotent and omniscient moderation team, in that those choices are the ones you have to make for every thread as a moderator, apart from it's not "Do I burn him or do I thank him?" it's "Does he deserve a warn" or "Should I let that slide".

Yea but as a mod, i have some kind of respect for you(possibly the reason im on 0%, or possibly cos your scared of my massive guns). So if you warned me, and i didnt think it was right, id probably go "meh, hes a mod, what he says goes" then mutter "bmx riding, photo taking welsh fairy boy" under my breath, or id man up and admit i was wrong before the sm crew hot tailed it round my house with golf clubs and crowbars, or whatever weapons you guys use these days. But if some barely validated new member and his chumpy mates decided to start "burning" me/my posts, and jumping on everything i say that wasnt informative or useful, because id called one of them a nonce for admitting they wore womens perfume, or told them that new idea to improve the forum was about as useful as a 2 legged donkey with chopsticks up his nostrils. Id get hacked off very quick to the point where as an omnivorous (just to keep your theme going) male, i wouldnt be short of of poo which i could bag, and as a working man, wouldnt be short of the money required to post said bags.

We've got lightsabers on order for some fun, easy limb removals and some of these:

I'm not sure that dishing out warnings left right and centre is the way to go about it though. It will just get peoples backs up more because they were warned and someone else wasnt ect, and probably cause more arguments and divisions between people.

I think its down to the user to take a step back, and look at the way they are coming across to others. People need to think "how will this comment be taken". If its in a sarcastic manner, read it back to yourself and see if it comes across as sarcastic or not, or use a smiley face to show that its not a serious comment. If its in a general harsh manner, think "would I like to be spoken to like this", and if the answer is no (which I'm sure it would be) dont say it.

A lot of the problem is down to manners and people using the internet to hide their true identity and come across and "hard" or whatever. If people acted like themselves on here, I'm sure we'd have a lot less arguments.

 Very True.
