..::littlesam::..
Hi there, i am looking to buy a new rim ( 19") and i am wondering if the new echo rims are as strong as the old ones with the square holes and stuff. Thankyou Sam X

eskimo
Simple answer would be no. They're lighter, over 100 grams lighter. I think even with the added drilling and machining you wouldn't save that much weight over the last model. He's probably reduced the thickness somewhere in the rim to. Greetings
They are lighter but weight isn't the main factor when it comes to rim strength. The SL's have a shape which would suggest they are quite strong. They're fairly stiff when you press down on them but since nobody has given them a good bashing yet, I doubt you'll get any genuine answers to your question. Tim/Trialsin USA
Rim weight (within reason) has little to do with wheel strength. The quality of the build is far more important.
Sponge
It seems quite well designed from the outset. The big holes are not parallel to eachother on the inner and outer walls, but more like a criss-cross zig-zaggy pattern, so there isn't the problem of cracking the little joints of rim between each hole like there is on today's generic drilled rims.
