PaRtZ Posted September 24, 2008 Report Share Posted September 24, 2008 Sorry to slate onza, but wtf...Ive just bought a new wheel build, along with a new (old) T-lite frame as my current T-lite frame has cracked in 3 places (BTW im not slating that before anyone starts). Built the wheel, put it in, put the chain on (the new frame had slightly longer stays than the one I was using so had to slacking my chain tugs a bit) FINALLY went to put my brake on, and "oh" struck me... The brake mounts have been brazed on way too high! Like I need a 19.5" rim for it to work right! Now i mean off angle tubing here and there and id never complain, but something as important as that really pisses me off! Mostly as I've just wasted the last 3 hours trying to figure out some way I can get around the problem, but no combination of chain length, tensioner adjustment, or pad angle will let me ride The wheel is right up against the end of the dropouts and its still about 7mm too small. If I take he tensioner out its about 2mm to short, but the chain goes really slack. I cant get somwhere in the middle because the chain tug bolts aren't long enough.so if anyone has a nice cheap short frame for sale (as in under £50) please let me know. In the mean time, Im bikeless even though I have two frames sat in my room Other than that if anyone can suggest any other methods not listed here, feel free to post away. aener Posted September 24, 2008 Report Share Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) It wasn't as bad as this - but my first pair of Onza forks were similar...They were at about the right height, and it worked, but the mounts were about 15mm out of vertical level. If not, get a halflink on the chain, and see if that sorts it out?Got one on my Zona at the moment, so the wheel doesn't have to sit on the very edge of the dropouts to give me the right tension... MattB Posted September 24, 2008 Report Share Posted September 24, 2008 I have the same problem with Ko Frame.I usually just run it slack and then when the chain starts falling off cos its so loose change it.I did think bout trying to make something so that I could have more movement with the pads as my wheel can get a good tension right at the end of the dropouts.Thinking of how to create a chain tensioner for a mod.Matt Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But I'll let you off.When i had my t-lite i had some problems but i managed to get round them.Was the frame new new? Where'd you get it from? If not, get a halflink on the chain, and see if that sorts it out?.NOOOOOOO if you value your safety do not get a half link i ran one for about 2 days and it snapped on a 5 and a half foot gap im not the smallest of people but surely it shouldnt have happened half links are weak and i would seriously not suggest one. You can borrow my mod if you fancy a ride although it may be a bit long for you.As for solutions, 20" rim and a BMX/front mod tyre. Can you extend the horizontal dropouts to allow the wheel to slide up further and take another link out of your chain or make a tensioner? TheChai Posted September 25, 2008 Report Share Posted September 25, 2008 i filed the drop outs down so the chains stays were bascially shorter.. had to fill about 3 mm only though.. not sure how mcuh 7 mm is.. anyway.. that was also with a cheap frame so i didnt really care too mcuh, just wanted to work. if u wanna do some frame mods, thats probably ur best bet, just make sure the welds are not in the way and the drop out is big enoughgood luck! Muel Posted September 25, 2008 Report Share Posted September 25, 2008 Matt, my brothers/mine has this exact problem, I thought it was because the chain was worn out, but I've just put a new chain on to sell it and it's worse!I've knicked the tensioner I had on my Echo and used that, which is working for now.I could almost get a link out of the chain, but it woul be about 3mm too short if I did.PM me for helpies if you want, or MSN.
