BONGO
If you had purchased £1000 of Northern Rock shares one year ago it would now be worth £4.95, with HBOS, earlier this week your £1000 would havebeen worth £16.50, and £1000 invested in XL Leisure would now be worth less than £5, but if you bought £1000 worth of Tennents Lager one yearago, drank it all, then took the empty cans to an aluminium re-cycling plant, you would get £214. So based on the above statistics the best current investment advice is to drink heavily...

Clownbike
I have HBOS shares. Its OK JT, buy low then sell high.I honestly thought this thread was going to be about a uni student deciding to drink or save...would have been an easy one!EDIT: just a Quick thing - shares are an investment not really savings. So if you were to save with HBOS etc (high rate saver/ISA) you'd have more money than either of the options. Simpson
If buying shares make you happy, then you wear a suitI have invested in cider tonight, and it was a worthwhile short term investment, which proved to have a massive growth on my ego

Instead of spending the $400 on an iPod, you could have bought $400 of apple shares, and they would now be worth $10,000.
Extreme_biker0
Oh and sorry to be pedantic, I know it's a joke, but HBOS shares a year ago were around 850p and recently were purchased in a paper for paper transaction for Lloyds shares up to a value of 230p. So if you bought £1,000 a year ago they are worth £270, not £4.95!
