Phatmike
Hey guys.I'm a bit of a noob outside the world of car audio, so need some advice on choosing a decent speaker set up for my room at uni.I bought my stepmum a set of the Harmon Kardon SoundsticksII (http://www.techhouseuk.com/peripherals/pc-speakers/2-1-speaker-systems/2-1-speaker.html), as she liked the design, and they do sound good to me. As well as an audiophile, I am a bit of a bass head, so a decent subwoofer channel is essential.Looking to spend around £100, more than happy to go 2nd hand if there's anything around.Ta for the help.Mike. TheCircus
What kind of inputs would you be using in the system?Edit - I don't really have alot of experience with sound systems, but what I do know is that it might be worth spending a little more (read: around £200 total). To obtain a more rounded and versatile system.I bought this for £200 new from digitaldirect.co.uk. It is a bargain for the features (HDMI, DTS decoding), as well as providing a nice amp for upgrades to new speakers in the future. Si-man
The first ones in the above post are mental. Make sure you have room for the sub though as it's quite hefty. I have the Logitech Z-3's. Pretty good for the price. Mine are in silver and brushed metal.

Krisboats
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_nkwZcam...QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZThen either some morduant short 902's or.. these, with rough "new" prices. Should be significantly cheaper on the bay. B&W DM600 S3 - £200KEF iQ1 - £230Mission V61 - ~£200 (I think?!)KEF iQ3 - £280B&W DM602 S3 - £300Dynaudio Audience 42 - £400If you can't find any cheap ones have a gander on the richer sounds site. Don't get pc speakers. Please. If your even remotely audiophilic you'll be kicking yourself when you realise how you could have spent your money much better. I know i did.I'd be far more inclined to get nicer stereo speakers than a 2.1 system anyday. Especially if your in towers, you'll be getting complaints from people below if you have the sub at any level worth having it for. Plus you'll have decent speakers for when you want to upgrade the amp in second year.
mat hudson
i'd have to agree getting a stereo system rather than a 2.1, good hifi sp[eakers or monitors will sound better than 99% of the 2.1 systems available... have you thought about getting a pair of active monitors? the samson rubicons are lovely, and under 200 quid they use a ribbon tweeter instead of the usual silk dome. resulting in less colouration of the sound. i havnt heard a pair myself but they seam to be the way to go for the price.http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR249210oooh and behringer truth monitors are also worth a look, we use them in college and they're spot on!http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR171639 Edited September 14, 2008 by mat hudson
