mista-neos
Hi there i was just wondering why people use front freewheel. On the bike im using its just causing problems e.g. snaped 3 chains, jamed once and just shreaded a tooth from the rear sprocket. So does any one elce have any problems with theres and what are the good points about front freewheel. Thanks Blake
Ben John-Hynes
Takes some of the weight away from the back end. Doesn't put so much pressure on the hub. Generally have more EPs.
Czar-rider
Only problem is they eat your pants haha but other than that most people cant afford to buy Profile & King hubsbut freewheels do the job!
steve@banbury-trials
it has many advantages ,e.g the engage feels a bit quicker, weight moved to the middle, cheaper to buy, easier to service, you can change gear without pedaling etc.some of the disadvantages are chain wear is slightly worse and occasionally your trouser get stuck in the chain.i found that correctly installing chains stop them snapping ,what chain are you using mate?steve
Mark W
If you're riding mod, then the chain wear won't change much at all, as you're still running 18:12 (Or whatever ratio you've got on there...). The chain does spin all the time, but it's under very little tension if you aren't actually pedalling, so it won't wear it out much at all. trialin
something I can sure about is.....front freewheel design actually transfer the weight forward to buttom backet from rear huband it makes your rear felt lighter

Mark W
Half-link chains are shit, so no surprise. Same goes for Collapse chains. How old was your Kool when you broke it?

steve@banbury-trials
it mus be how the chain is put together,a crappy chain lie or isn't maintained properly like e.g oiled and clean
mista-neos
The kool was on the bike when i got it but it did have some rust here and there and the KHE and half link were new from the shop lol.
George ZHI
Yes! Freewheels all the way! They are great in many ways as mentioned before but they do EAT YOUR TROUSERS. george
