Shez.sheridan
Ok, I've just been riding my 20" & it's a while since I've hoped up onto a wall front wheel first..I tried the wall I used to do & after a few attempts the obvious occured..I gave it the full beans & landed the front wheel just below the edge sending me in what can only be described in terms of vectors, forward then back & down very quickly. This isn't really a problem, we've all been there before..but it turned into a problem when I landed fully on my thigh on the edge of the wall & my body decided to go into pansy mode..I barely recall landing on my feet & remember nothing as I blacked out, nothing except an increasingly unbearable pain which seamed to go on forever. It's only when I awoke in a slumped heap atop my bike at the side of the road that I realised that the pain was my shins & hands increasingly bearing more weight ontop of my nice new monty pedals as I became gradually more unconscious. Standing up was a joke, much akin to a newborn lamb, albeit a disabled one at that. My head went again as I stood & eventually I found myself fighting my body just to breathe.."I need to breathe..........breathe....errr, lungs...breathe, struggling for air here...earth to lungs do you copy..."Now, as I said, I think my body over reacted completely, but is this some kind of mild shock? Has anyone else had it, I know I've had similar once. After shredding my shins in the days before I used shinpads...i just tapped my knee one time & hey presto "we have pansy mode..." leaving me on the floor again. Don't get me wrong, I can take pain..I'm no sugar-poof. However sometimes, my interpretation of pain & my body's differ greatly & my body just seams to give up with something that I find quite trivial..Derv.. N.Wood
I've gone a bit wheezy after doing my shin in.I'm pretty sure it was a badboy combo of heat (summer, remember that?), lack of sugar and water (you know when your vision goes a bit and legs go wobbly) and the fact I have a phobia of blood.I have also fainted once in my life, and it was about 4 months ago, embarrasingly in a room full of people at uni during a first aid course. No idea what caused that, possibly being cooped up in an air-less room for a hours.Maybe yours was to do with the heat in Italy? If it happens again I'd go see El Doctoro. Shez.sheridan
To be honest, I'd usually of said the heat as it does get ridiculously hot here & I get the 'ald trembly legs now & again. But this, this was ridiculous...I'm assuming it was because I hit it so hard & unexpectedly & I feel it hit the bone...maybe I'm just wired up wrong....lol
N.Wood
Maybe a similar reaction to hitting a funny bone, just not quite so funny?

aener
As far as I understand it - everone's different. Most people have a usual threshold of:Hit your wrist on a door-knob whilst passing through: "Ouch"Hitting a knee on a stem: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" And sit out for 5/10 minutes.A hefty bail involving you landing a fair way away from where your bike ends up: Not riding for quite a while... sometimes get a little dizzy/dodgey vision etc.Being in a head on car crash: Pass out/mild shock/serious pain.Personally - I've brutalised myself into accepting normal levels of pain, and think nothing of what most people would be really hurt by... but as SOON as the pain exceeds that threshold, I go into a mild form of shock* really easy - yet I come out of it dead quick.(This is where the boundary lies... I didn't get any shock, but it BLOODY hurt.) *By "mild shock", I mean mild nausea, slight tunnel vision, and feeling generally unwell - not blacking out, or anything so much as you described.I know some people who struggle to withhold the pain of tipping over the bars, but Krisboats - on the other hand - just completely ignores the fact that he should be experiancing some sort of pain I guess each person's pain tolerance is down to them - but even then, there'll always be anomalies to the rule. JohnBanks
Yea I fell on my arse while riding a real thin wall and landed right on my coxics, i stood up and my head went like " woaaahhhhh" and like saw stars and stuff, so I sort of crouched down( as i couldn’t sit) then had some coca cola and was fine. I think it’s to do with body sugar it’s called being hypo glyseeminc or something like that Edited September 11, 2008 by JohnBanks

I'd forgotten about that.Any sugar helps - but glucose is the best. (Lucozade)Less breaking down for the body to do, and so can get the glucose to the bloodstream faster. Rich Pearson
People keep mentioning shock and I just wanted to be perdantic for a second: circulatory shock is basically what happens when the blood flow to your brain is impeeded in some way, usually by massive fluid loss from a wound or trauma. It actually rarely accours when something like what you did happens. Most people seem to think that shock is something mental as in seeing your own blood is "shocking" and that you would therefore go into "shock," but this is generally pretty innacurate.I've blacked out a couple of times in my life often due to not having eaten enough, room temperature, stress, and/or a combination of all three. Once I actaully did pass out from my dad shouting at me, he honestly thought he'd scared me to death! Freakishly me and my brother both passed out in a museum in the same split second once, in a crowded room standing 20 ft appart, for no apparent reason. No one else in the room felt the slightest bit of discomfort... Was weird.May not be a bad idea to pop to the old sawbones and explain what happened and see if they can just check your blood pressure and see if they can give you any kind of professional opinion. Lets face it, you ain't likely to find one on here. (This is where the boundary lies... I didn't get any shock, but it BLOODY hurt.)Dude, that is NOTHING compared to your Kong over that rail to shoulder-on-brick bail. That is still one of the harshest things I have ever seen RichEDIT: just read up on Acute Stress Reaction which is also sometimes referred to as shock, but I gather medical professionals tend never to use the word shock when discribing this, only when referencing Circulatory Shock. Still isn't really what you guys were talking about, but thought I'd cover my back.

trials_pimp
I had something Like this Years Ago.Was trying to Back wheel a Concrete post, and I missed with the Back Wheel. I landed on the Drop out, which slid along and shot the bike out from UNderneath me.Then I landed right across my back on the post, Like that wrestling move where they drop you over their Knee.I got up, stumbled over to a bench and managed to sit down. Had a few Friends Asking if I was ok, then it hit me.My vision Blacked out, and I went Deaf. Had people shouting at me, in my face and I couldnt hear anything. Was told I went pale white and slumped over.I could barley move for about 10 mins, then My vision came back, but was very blurey, couldnt make out colours either. Also I started feeling Nautious. Then My Hearing started coming back, just like in Saving Privite Ryan, when Tom Hanks Gets Shell Shocked. After the Adrenaline wore off I was in Agony. I couldnt move my legs, Was just able to move my arms and panicing over the loss of sight and hearing.I rested a while on the Bench and when i got enough movement back in my arms I had something to drink. My Hearing and Sight came back to Normal withing about 20 mins, but I couldnt walk for a few days and had Back problems for a few years after that. That was a massive shock to my body and it started shutting down, was Lucky that it managed to come back "online" again. Tony Harrison
This is totally normal. I too have had a similar experience, falling about 7 foot off a wall onto railway ballast. The pain hit and my senses started going, hearing, vision, etc. I wanted to puke, but you just have to breathe and ride out the pain. Eventually I started getting myself back together and managed to avoid fainting/puking.
Mark W
Once I actaully did pass out from my dad shouting at me, he honestly thought he'd scared me to death!I've gone into shock twice, it wasn't a hell of a lot of fun. At the time it's not nice, but the constant piss-taking from family members afterwards isn't the best

Greetings
I've never fainted but got close to fainting quite a few times, always due to pain or just being squeamish, like when I accidentally put my finger into a rotating disc rotor - that didn't hurt much but it looked quite bad and triggered off that reaction. Revolver
One time, I pulled back on my bike, and I did it so hard I looped out and landed on my coccyx. When I got up I discovered that everything had gone grey, as if I was going to faint, and I had barely any strength. Nevertheless, I picked myself up and got home (I was only up the road lol) using my bike as a crutch. My guess is that when something hurts a lot your body sort of numbs your senses to ease it.I dunno lol. Fish-Finger-er
Is it wrong that i've stopped going through the whole "shock" thing? When something massive has just happened?i have to certain things, like serious cuts(to the point where my mate who i believe to be fairly unsquamish, almost fainted when he saw the gash on my inner elbow (just from the sheer amount of blood that was coverin me, my shirt, my jeans, and the floor)) and i was just like "go see if we can get a tea towel or something from behind the bar of the pub so i can stop the bleeding. or like when i stacked me motorbike, was no big deal. but if i trap a finger nail, to the point wer im gunna get black nail unless i drill it out, when i initially hit/trap it, for a good 10-15 minutes im shaking like a sh**ting dog, need to sit down, go totally white etc.

Had a few Friends Asking if I was ok, then it hit me.I did this in the past but I just jumped straight over (gave it too much beans) & landed just under the small of my back on the post, it hurt like crazy but I carried on riding (there was a crowd watching & I've also had my sight 'go' on me (similar effect to a migrane) after landing on my coccyx. I've knocked myself out momentarily by landing chin first on the top of a rock when I pinned my frontwheel on the hopup & kept hold of the bars as the bike rolled back & off the wall (in the early days before I learnt to let go) & I have the scar to prove it...lolThis is what I mean, for me, I've had worse injurys & walked away/continued riding....but in this case my body seemed to disagree & switched the lights off..I've just noticed that where the pedals hit my shinpad, I had a graze & now that's gone I have a 'hole/dent' in my shin..it's about round & about 3/4cm deep, anyone have any idea/had similar to that? sstein
I must be really different to most other people then, cause when I get hurt I just screan loudly, get up and start riding again. Like I slipped off the pedals once (gusset prosecutors) and took a couple of huge chunks off my shin (biggest was about 10cm long 1cm wide and 1cm deep). I screamed, got up laughing and tried the thing again. When I screamed, someone ran over and asked if I wanted an ambulance and my freind just said 'no he does this all the time' which made me laugh. I ended up going to the hospital anyone as bits of the hole were white and were not bleeding which a lot of other people thought might be bone. Ironic ha? Dont know what the problem could be for sure but I think it might be the heat and lack of sugar/salt and water.I decked it off my Patriot on a trail at the borders and everything went blue for a while.
