TrialsMan Dan
Pretty much what the title says. Is there a cheap and easy way to grind a rim? I only want to grind the front rim lightly because the back brake is quite strong anyway with the Inspired pads. Any advice appreciated. Oh and im using standard pads on the front. Z o o !!
Just grind it you girl. you wont go through the rim. just do it lightly.unless your going to be a complete and utter tard like my mate and try putting a grind on his rim with a sanding disc Edited September 10, 2008 by Z o o !! JonMack
It's how everyone does it. You don't cut through them, you just grind them
davey1991
Why do you think its called rim GRINDING!! When you buy them from online shops they use angle grinders, its the easiest and best way.You could spend hours and hours cutting into your rim with a knife but then you run the risk of cutting of your fingers. Endohopper
Just to clarify - the grinding disc is laid across the rim , and if correctly done the edge never even touches . As such it's impossible to actually cut through .
grant_hundley
Whats wrong with dumfries? And no, im not taking an angle grinder to my wheels.....i just found it funny and if you want a grind you need to take an angle grinder to your rim, an average rim can take about 10 grinds, a grind will last about 2 months.if you can get 20 months out of a rim i'd say you got your moneys worth, i normally change rim every 6 months lol
aener
I was the same, man - but it's true... It's the only way.If you don't want to grind, go have a look in the Pad Review topic, and find some you think'll be suitable for a smooth rim.I ran Heatsink Snowies for a while, on a smooth front - they were pretty good

If a grind didn't involve a grinder it'd be called a rim-file or a rim-scratch.
Gandalf the Yellow
i was really scared of grinding my rim back in the day too till i actually tried it, was quite fun actually.get a grinder and try it yourself!steve
Chris Woodhouse
if your scared of taking a grinder to your rim hacksaw or woodsaw. Much more time consuming though.Just grind it theres plenty how to guides. Edited September 15, 2008 by Chris Woodhouse
JonMack
Use a rasp or a cheese grater file!
Samtrials
If you are to afraid to grind it properly than just load it up with some tar. Trust me, it works. Kinda loud though hah
Alex Dark
practice on an old rim then try it on yours......
TrialsMan Dan
Dont like the idea of tar though. Does it not make a mess of your rims?
forteh
Dont like the idea of tar though. Does it not make a mess of your rims?Yeah it covers them in tar Which incidentally doesnt work in the wet Just grind your rims
eskimo
The obvious answer to this would be:use the same brake pads on the front as the back.
Jason222
Tar isn't that messy, it's pretty solid, and you're only supposed to apply small amounts. Grinding is easy as well, try it on a shitty wheel to get the hang of it, then do it on yours. It's really easy, and it doesn't rape your rim like you seem to think. I'd say that most riders are using a grind, and ALL comp riders are. Edited September 16, 2008 by Jason222
