Aaron.Tottman
hey,i decided to run a Mavic D521 because i kept going though single wall rims like theres no tomorrow but it's only like 27mm wide and suffer from traction probles and the tyre rebounding too much, i let it down that little bit and i start pinching tubes.another reson i run theD521 is the wieght it's only bout 450g.i've been running this front wheel for nerly a year and a half and decided for a change.anyone know ofa double wall rim 35-42mm that would take a beating that done wiegh a tonelooking at echo (what i use for the rear) but it's nearly 300g heavyer than the mavic!!!any ideascheers AaRoN

psycholist
There's an EX729 from Mavic now as well - its 29mm wide rather than the 21mm (Internal width) for the D521. Possibly worth looking at if you like Mavics. If Mavic started making rims in the 40mm width territory they'd make an absolute killing... Mark W
looking at echo (what i use for the rear) but it's nearly 300g heavyer than the mavic!!!Said it before, I'll say it again: Strong/Light/Cheap - pick two. Or, in fairness, one, in this case But seriously - if you want a wider, strong front rim, it's obviously going to weigh more than the D521 'cos there's almost half an inch of extra rim width there? If you want a stronger, wider front wheel, then just accept it's going to be heavier, or just keep running what you've got now? You can't make a rim wider and be double-walled without there being more material, and therefore more overall weight.
Bigman
Perhaps an Onza Reggie, They are double walled and last very well, even when the holes get drilled out bigger (Prawn did this) slightly wider than a D521 at 32mm, worth a look i recons.Adam
forteh
If Mavic started making rims in the 40mm width territory they'd make an absolute killing...Too right, I run d521s on my santacruz and theyre still going strong 10 years on, never needed tensioning or truing. Running an xc517 on the front of my trials bike, very light and plenty stong enough for my riding, I try not to be a basher though The quality of mavic rims is far superior compared to ANY trials rim currently out. Ross McArthur
Your a hard man to please.id say Alex dx32 for the win. drilled for weight saving and wide to stop tyre roll.Or just live with what youve got. 521s are mint and with a hard run tryall tyre that set up should be fine.
