Laptop

I spoke to a mate last night about him getting a new laptop and he wants me to find him one for around £300. I recall someone on here buying something from (I think) play.com, an Acer for about £300 with a pretty shit hot spec for the cost?

Anyone shine a light or recommend me something, I never really keep my eye on the laptop market :)

Acer are generally good for your money, but come loaded with crap-ware which makes the computer feel slower.

Nevertheless they are a good deal. You will just feel the benefit of siting down with it for an hour and removing the bloat, which might not be the case with another manufacturer.

That would be me :)

Mine isn't on there anymore, though there is a similar spec one for £329, which is good!

Checklist for your money:

Don't go below 1.6 Dual Core Processor

Don't go below 2gb RAM

Don't go below 80gb HD

All of that and more is possible for £300, just hunt everywhere :)

True.

I spent two hours removing free trials and pointless software, I also stripped graphics-heavy Vista down to Classic style. It runs like a beast now :)

Something to be aware of, if you're planning on playing games, don't spend less than £600! My laptop is good for internet, music production and graphic design but can't handle any newish games because the graphics card is shite.
