How To Find Net Connection Speed?

JT!

Recommended Posts

Setup is the usual modem to router to 5 computers. Been looking about in the router (linksys) but can't seem to find it on there.

Any ideas apart from using those crappy online speed testers.

Thanks!

That's what speedtest tells you.

I don't think so. I thought the actual transfer rate was significantly slower than what it's connected at?

Besides, on the speedtest you get different results each time depending on what server you pick and what other people are up to on other computers.

I'm on XP too.

Turn off all the other computers, connect yourself to the modem directly, turn off everything that uses the internet except your browser, then test 3 times. Average it, and that will be the most accurate way of doing it.

If i was connected to the modem directly i could just go down to that little icon and it'd tell me straight off. But i don't want kick people off their comps just because i'm curious. :turned:

The speedtest gave me 3.4Mb so i guess that's roughly about what it's at so that's all i need to know really.

Surely you could have done that without starting this thread then?

I suppose so but it would mean messing about with cables and disconnecting everybody off their computers and then installing the modem onto my computer, and then having to put it all back afterwards hoping it'll still work which it probably won't.

Or i could just ask on here where there's people like you to answer my questions. :)
