New Fork

Recommended Posts

I am going to buy a new fork, but haven't decided which. I searched and came to a conclusion, that one of the best materials for forks are the U6 alloy. So, I looked in tartybikes, and saw that the KOT and GU forks are made of the U6. Also the onza smart guy and viz forks seem to be good. I want to use a front v-brake, so when answering keep that in mind :)

So, which fork could I go for?

because they have a one peice steerer/crown, no weak welds or bonds to work loose and snap. Viz steerer tubes have a slight stress riser in the way they are internally butted, I have seen some snap just below the crown race. Trialtech are better designed in this area to remove any stress risers

The disk mount is designed to remove any stress risers and save the leg from cracking.

Basicly, they made the previous strongest forks even stronger without a noticeable weight increase.

Hmm, the urban fork would be easier to get and it's also cheaper. But i'm afraid that I could break that, too. My previous fork was echo pure, how would you compare the urban to a pure? Because, when I put on vees, I snapped the fork in second day, actually in the third time I tried to gap to front :( And this is scaring me, what if I buy a new fork and snap it in the next day, too?

Get a steel fork then - even if it does break, it'll tend to give you some warning through creaking/flex rather than the first thing you know about the fork being broken being when you're picking yourself off the ground... I got an Onza Tuf Guy to replace my snapped Urban - geometry feels exactly the same, weight isn't noticeable either.

Well if price is an issue then i would definatly go for the KOT stock, thats what i run (straight) on my base and they have all the things your looking for, in my opinion the best alloy forks around for £50 and they are pretty light.

Well I've been running a vee on the front of my urban for a month or something, and well its held up very well. I've hooked, drop gapped to front, gapped to rails to front etc. and well its held up pretty good. No cracks or anything. I only here good things about the urban, its more the pure thats prone to breaks. I also am usually a tank on my shit and break shit, and well forks been good. I even cracked my GU ST frame ha, well maybe no big deal, but i would highly recommend the urban.
