Anyone Suffer From Bruxism?

Long story, basically when i started drinking alcohol a bit more frequently i noticed i'd have really sensitive teeth the next day. But no biggy, usually wore off by the end of the day.

Few months down the line i noticed wear in my teeth so i went to the dentist who told me i'm grinding my teeth during my sleep. And because i was grinding and then the alcohol / carbonated drink was hitting the freshly ground teeth it was causing sensitivity.

So anyway i went out and bought a night guard to wear every night, since i got it i only really go though periods of wearing it. And very rarely get though all the night. I usually end up waking up a few hours into my sleep and sleeping the rest without it. Another problem i'm having is getting to sleep with it in in the first place, hence it being 6am now.

I was wondering if anyone else has any experiences, or they found a guard that is better than the one i'm using. I'm chewing away on the Dr. Brux one but find it unnessisarily big and the only way i can properly sleep with it in is if I've had 5 pints.

Thanks! :)

If youa re having trouble with a shop bought one, you can talk to your dentist who will make you one. They will take an impression of your teeth and make one suited to you. If you area heavy grinder, it will be a more solid mouth guard style, but if it's only light grinding, you can get away with a very thin one which just sits on top of your teeth and you can barely feel.

So long as you have a dentist that is.

And also, if you have the money spare to get him to make you one.

I think I grind my teeth. My ex gf use to say I did, but my teeth were very sore. Recently though, they've become very sensitive, so I think I'll have to have a look at one of these guards.

When you can get a place in the hospital, they do, yes. But in what they class as 'minor' cases, they do jack all.

Well it kind of is 'minor'. If I know my stuff, they assess patients on risk and severity on a 1-5, 5 being minor.

I'd hardly class grinding teeth as high risk...Infact a small cut would probably rank higher.

Docs/Nurses do a fecking hard job with little thanks. Be thankful you have an NHS; or like everyone else, you'll be thankful when you need it.

I have one the dentist made for me. It works great and I wear it every night for the past 5 years. I tried a store bought one and it didn't last. I might try a different brand because mine is getting old.

JT....keep wearing it because it will be nice to have teeth when you are older.

I wasn't knocking the NHS for what they do, what I was saying was how little is free. Although in some cases it's understandable, some things you think, why did they charge me for it...

My cousin is a nurse for the NHS, and works extremely hard. I know what she has to put up with, so I won't knock them for working their socks off to earn a decent wage. It's all the government really. :(

I have dreams where my teeth fall out, apparently they are caused or a symptom of anxiety.

I have a line in my bottom lip from where my top teeth have almost implanted themselves in the bottom lip, that get's worse when I am stressed I think because I tense my lips more.

Used to grind a bit a few months ago, but it's stopped now thank god
