psycholist
Try getting some very rough sand paper and rub at a angle to the rim for it to work best, 90 degrees is best but takes most time. This should be the same as a light grind from a grinder. I used to do this (Sanding disk on a power drill, 60 grit paper), but a grind performs much much better and lasts longer (And takes less time to do). Ross McArthur
Make your dad read this thread and see what he says. You wont find a pad that will work in the wet with a smooth rim. If anyone wants to correct me feel free. But yea, take a grinder to it if you can it will work so much better. There should be loads of threads on here telling you how to do it properly.Keep safe, thats the main thing. And dont be scared of the grinder!!! They are bloody dangerous!!Ha ha thats why I came into this topic...I always fall on my ars no matter what. bike lands ontop of me too with me holding onto the bars. lol Edited September 4, 2008 by Ross McArthur
JonMack
If your dad is worried about your safety then he should let you grind the rim, purely for the increased hold you get, which will actually make riding safer.
BenLeacock™
You tried plaz pads ? The crms aint bad at all in the dry, but like any pad shite in the rain. Personaly if you ride alot in rain, id go with light sharp grind and rock blues, or heatsink cousts. Work amazing!
ti-mig-guy
The engraver will not work. But if your dad says the engraver is ok, then use a grinder and tell him it was the engraver. If not Monty makes that brake-spray for a reason, I would think it would help, at least it could not hurt.
mintsauce96
I use a smooth rim with Rimjam pads and find they work excellent If you want to ride in the rain I think a grind is your only option though.I personally don't want to grind my rim as I'm not keen on the noise and having to replace my pads all the time (had my rimjams on for over a year of regular riding now) plus the smooth option works fine and I don't ride in the rain.... you tend to get wet.If I get oil on the rims I just rub over with good quality sandpaper which works lovely Hope this helps, Kev

chimpanzyyyy
smooth rim + rain = I don t like the noise of a grind rim...when I ride at night...everybody nows there is a clown doing something weird on his bike...fecking silly noisebut yeah it's cool riding in the rain...so grind your rim...when I need a grind, I ask to my father or to a friend...I never do it myself

I needed the heaviest grind I could manage to get them to work OK in the dry! That was on Mod though, although I don't know if that make an difference.
