Rusty190
Im in need of gears on my bike. Is it possible to have a rear mech switching between only 2 wheels? One for high speeds, and the existing wheel I have now. I have a Echo Hub 15 T with a built -in tensioner. Do I have to buy a new rearhub for cassettes, or possible using the existing Echo hub? I have seen the Onza rear mech at Tartys, maybe thats something for me? Or maybe, there´s much simple solutions with such few gears...?I have this one:
Revolver
You could use two chainringsORyou could use a sram cassette, and space it out so you only have two gears. Then, use the lockout screws on the mech to set it so it only works on two gears. You WILL need a cassette hub though.Win.Show us the result!V he's not wrong. G-baby158
I think you need a new hub, but i might be wrong.
Simpson
I dont DO stock problems, but you can only run gears if you have a casetee, of which you could use for exampele an 8 speed casette with 2 tooth rings and the rest being spacers, or just adjust your mech each time to choose gears. But on these hubs the teeth are fixed an don't run a cassette as far as im aware, so its not possible.
Tomm
It's not going to work with that hub, unfortunately*. But if you get a normal hub and a rear mech, it's dead easy to run 2 gears - that's what I do.* Unless you got something bonkers like this: http://magicmechanics.com/

psycholist
Looks great for what it's designed for - I doubt if it'd last very long on a trials bike though - the pickup may be poor too. I'd wait for someone with more dental cover than I have to prove me wrong before risking it myself...
Rusty190
Revolver: 2 chainrings? Does that work with a bashguard? I guess I need a mech for that, but my GU LE 26" has not mounting option for that I think. Tomm, that looks interesting, but as Psycholist mentioned, it may not last long for trials? Hmm I think i´ll wait going gears, I do not really want to change my rearwheel with a new hub, doh!

I guess I need a mech for that, but my GU LE 26" has not mounting option for that I think.Your GU should have a mech hanger.I used to run 32-24:18 on one of my bikes. You need a rohloff/NC17 stinger/tensile chain tensioner - one that holds a lot of chain - but it does work.It might be better for you to try something like 28-24:18 if you can find the ring.I personally am intrigued by the mech idea. It would definately work. Just remove all the sprockets but one, then set the mech to work using only two gears.
Mr Motivator
Years ago I had a Hope XC with an 18t sprocket, a 12t sprocket and a Shimano 105 Mech. It worked perfectly.Kinda pointless on a ride though, as everyone else is riding between spots at 5mph. So unless you are a loner or live in the ghetto and need to sprint through it on your way home, I wouldn't bother.
